The first international air show in Yarmouth since 1991 roared into reality this afternoon with the arrival of the Canadian Forces Snowbirds.
Tomorrow has been slotted as a practice day at the airport for some of the air show acts. There are more performers than originally planned, so organizers have extended each day's show by one hour, with on-ground acts taking place between noon and 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13 and Sunday, Sept. 14. In-air performances are scheduled for 1-4 p.m. Static displays will be open from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Performances will include the Snowbirds, Skyhawks (Canadian Forces parachuting team), a flash fire jet truck that goes 350 m.p.h. in seven seconds, American stunt pilot Pete McLeod, a Griffin helicopter, three Harvard heritage aircrafts and a CF-18 Hornet.
In the VIP tent, a plane being constructed by Pubnico resident Ron Belliveau will also be on display.
Tickets for the air show are $12 for adult and $8 for children 12 and under.
The Environment Canada weather forecast as of Thursday afternoon calls for sunny with cloudy periods on Friday. The wind will become southwest 20 km/h early in the afternoon and there will be a high of 18 degrees Celsius. Saturday will be cloudy with a low of 12 and high of 18.
Sunday calls for cloudy with a 40 percent chance of showers, low 13, high 18.
NOTE:
The section of Starrs Road between PJ Motor Sports and the Small Gaines Road will be closed on Sept. 13 and 14 between 1 and 4 p.m. in relation to the show.
