Provincial ombudsman marks return of Yarmouth library’s Mid-Week Break

The Role of the Ombudsman of Nova Scotia will highlight the return of Mid-Week Break to the Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Library on Wednesday, Sept. 24.

Jean Donovan from the Ombudsman of Nova Scotia’s office will discuss the role of the ombudsman in the program room at the Yarmouth library beginning at noon. The Ombudsman of Nova Scotia is an independent agency that addresses administrative concerns about provincial or municipal government services and is provided free of charge.

Following the presentation, she will be available in the library for one-on-one discussions from 1 to 4 p.m. There will also be a display.

On Wednesday, Oct. 1, Mid-Week Break is On the Trail of the Tent Dwellers. In May, eight intrepid souls recreated the 100-kilometre canoe trip of Albert Bigelow Paine, author of The Tent Dwellers. Celebrating its 100th anniversary The Tent Dwellers chronicles Paine’s travels throughout inland Nova Scotia, mostly in the area of what is now Kejimkujik National Park, in the early 1900s. Presenter Sandra Phinney will tell the tale of her group’s journey, share photographs and stories of the adventure and read selective passages from the novel.

Midweek Break is held Wednesdays at the library beginning at noon. Participants are encouraged to bring a bagged lunch and refreshments will be served. For information on programs call 902-742-5040 or check the events calendar online at www.westerncounties.ca. The library is located at 405 Main St. in Yarmouth.
