August at Grand View Manor

August at Grand View Manor
Where did summer go?

We here at Grand View Manor were able to get outside occassionly. We had two BBQ picnics outside. We had a Newfie Day, where Newfie Karlyne told stories, dressed the part and had screech and dulse for a treat. We had some Olympic games each day to recognize the Olympics as well.

August 12, we had a Family Garden Party; however, it was not a garden party due to the weather we had and everything was moved inside. The Bauchmans provided the music. Sarah, one of our summer students, did some crafts and paintings with the residents. The paintings are up around for everyone to see.

Our Exhibition Days were a great success. We had quilts, flowers and art displays. Bob Bellingham came with his antiques to share with residnets. Jillian Robinson brought animals for the residents to pet and enjoy. Mitchel Best brought his rabbit. Bev Sheffield and daughter Tracey Sheffield provided musical entertainment.

We are having an open house in September to promote Continuing Care Month. It will be September 23 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Visitors, families and friends are all welcome to come for a tour to see a day at Grand View Manor.

Our summer students, Anita Ayling and Sarah Graves, are finished and headed back to university. They were a huge asset to our recreation department and will be greatly missed.

Residents looked forward to all the Gala Day celebrations over the Labour Day weekend. As we cannot go to them, it is so great the celebrations come to us with the fireworks, princesses and parade.

Unfortunately, fall is now fast approaching and volunteers are always needed. If anyone has a few spare hours and would like to volunteer. Please call Lynn Hardy at Grand View Manor, 538-3118.

The Junior Volunteer Program for youth ages 14 to 18 will also be starting in September. This is a two hour/ week committment. Application forms are available at the front desk. It would be appreciated if youth could sign up early so we can begin early. For information, call Lynn Hardy at 538-3118.

Our Physio Department is no longer collecting Sobeys tapes. Thank you to all for giving them to us in the past.

We would like to welcome Nellie Leonard as a volunteer and a special welcome back to Neil McMullen, our volunteer van driver. We really missed Neil and will certainly put him to use driving the van again.
