August 17 to August 23, 2008 continued JACQUARD, Francis Louis – 76, Comeau’s Hill, Yarmouth Co., passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2008 as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Born November 25, 1931 in Comeau’s Hill, he was a son of the late Samuel and Rebecca (Fitzgerald) Jacquard. He began lobster fishing at the age of 14 and worked as a fisherman for 58 years of his life - not only was this his livelihood, it was a passion for him. He loved his family and enjoyed walking his dog, Max. There would have been 49 years on August 25 that he married his loving wife, Eleanor M. (Doucette) Jacquard. Besides his wife, he is survived by sons, Mitchell (Audrey) Jacquard, Pubnico; Donnie Jacquard (Marilyn), Comeau’s Hill; Ted (Elaine) Jacquard, Yarmouth; Allan Jacquard, Moncton, NB; a daughter, Darlene Jacquard, Yarmouth; grandchildren, Evan, Erin, Kandace, Matthew, Ryan and Jason; a great grandson, Xavier Nigel; brothers, Lawrence (Yarmouth) and Bernard, Comeau’s Hill; sisters, Doris Fitzgerald, Comeau’s Hill; Mary LeBlanc, Yarmouth; his twin sister, Flossie Saulnier, Pinkney’s Point; Theresa Harris, New York. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Tommy, Earl and Ernest; sisters, Viola Cottreau and Rosie DeViller. There was no visitation by request. A memorial service was held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 27 from H. M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth, Deacon Stephen Bourque and Dick Bourque officiated. Interment followed in Saint Gabriel’s Parish Cemetery, Comeau’s Hill, after which a reception was held at Harbour Hill Community Hall, Comeau’s Hill. August 17 to August 23, 2008 continued Peter Diedrich von Possel, July 15, 1936-August 22, 2008. It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of their father in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax, surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Germany, and immigrated to Canada as a marine draftsman in 1956. His trade led him to Quebec (Levi shipyard), Saint John (Irving), Dartmouth, and Mahone Bay (Atlantic Bridge). He was the proprietor of two businesses, the Bluenose Lodge, Lunenburg and Kingfisher Motel, Digby, where he later retired. A member of King Solomon Lodge No. 54 of Digby and Past District Deputy Grand Master of Annapolis-Digby District, he was also a member of the Austin Bentley Council of Royal and Select Masters, and a member of Eureka Chapter No. 5 of Royal Arch Masons. Peter also served four years on the Digby Town Council working on the Digby Recreation Commission and Digby Water Commission. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 44 years as well as his parents and three brothers (Germany). He will be sadly missed by his children, Susannne (Steve) Friebel, Ontario; Frank von Possel, British Columbia; Marion (Trevor) Tanner, Bridgetown; grandchildren, Colin, Nicole, Nikolaus and Alison, who will remember Opi with great fondness. He will also be missed by brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Lilo von Possel, Texas; his dear friend, Bonnie van Tassel, Digby; friends and family in Germany. A Masonic service will be held Sept. 5 at 2 p.m. in Digby Baptist Church followed immediately by a celebration of life officiated by Rev. Donald Robertson. Reception to follow at the Masonic Lodge in Digby. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia Masonic Foundation or a charity of choice. August 17 to August 23, 2008 continued DURLING, Jean Allison – 86, of West Dalhousie, passed away at Rosedale Home for Special Care, New Germany, N.S. on August 22, 2008 with her family by her side. Born in West Dalhousie on September 23, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Eva (Spurr) Anderson. Being a faithful church goer she was a member of the St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Durling Lake, and former member of the Ladies Guild and Bible Study group. She was a retiree of Britex Ltd., formerly United Elastic in Centrelea. She will be sadly missed and always remembered and loved by her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter Gail (James) Robar, Springfield, grandsons Jamie (Andrea), Dartmouth, Jeff (Julie) and she was so pleased to have a great granddaughter born in August 2007, Mali-Soleil, in Whitby, Ontario. Also surviving are sisters Freeda Fox and Eileen (Ernest) Leonard, brother Joseph, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Barnaby, sisters Ruby Goucher, Ellen Porter, Vera Gibson , and brothers Lawrence and Lloyd. Visitation was held at Kaulback Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown, on August 25 from 7 -9 p.m. with funeral service on August 26 in St. Peters Anglican Church, Durling Lake. Rev. Liz Early officiated. Burial in church cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Rosedale Home for Special Care Van Fund or Canadian Liver Foundation.
August 17 to August 23, 2008 continued Ethel Hope Power - 88, of Aylesford, Kings Co. passed away Friday August 22, 2008, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. A joint funeral service for Ethel & her late husband Victor was held at 1 p.m. Saturday September 6, in St. Mary’s Anglican Church, 20 Morden Rd., Auburn. Rev. August 17 to August 23, 2008 continued SKALING, Theta Vivian, age 95 of Hants Border, Kings County, died Monday, August 18, 2008, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born January 16, 1913, in Windsor, Hants County, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Mora (Richardson) Sanford. Theta was an avid bowler, liked dancing and doing crocheting, playing the mouth organ, and Skating. In her younger years she worked at the Nova Scotia Textiles and in later years at Stedmans and Avon Valley Greenhouses. She is survived by two daughters, Maxine Padovan, Hants Border; Olga Marsters, Hants Border; four grandchildren, Wanda (Troy), Roland (Joanne), Crystal (Tim), and Angelo (Pam); seven great-grandaughters, Tiffany (Marcello); Kendra; Colbie (Tony); Santanna (Brian); Shaquille; Christy; and Micayla; two great-great grandsons, Colton and Reighen; sister-in-law, Jean Sanford, Windsor; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Oscar and Mora (Richardson) Sanford; six sisters, Vonny Smith; Kathaleen Pico; Viola Noiles; Alice LaRussic; Leonra Smith; and a sister, Marie in infancy; five brothers, Henry, Murray, Inglis, Jim, and John Reuben Sanford; sons-in-law, Rino Padovan and Willis Marsters. Visitation was 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2008, in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. Funeral service was 2 p.m. Thursday, August 21, 2008, in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. E. E. Hill officiated. August 17 to August 23, 2008 continued MILLER, Hildajane- passed away August 22, 2008 at UMass Memorial Hospital, Worcester, Mass. Born in Delaps Cove, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mildred (McCaul) Milbury. Hildajane moved to Boston with her late husband, Rev. Francis D. S. Miller, in 1957 after serving ministries in Hillsburn and Deep Brook, Nova Scotia. While in Nova Scotia she worked at the Canadian naval training academy in Cornwallis. In Boston, Rev. Miller served as minister at the Roxbury Presbyterian Church from 1959-1979 while Hildajane was administrator of the Elizabeth Carleton House until its closure on 1982. Mrs Miller went on to serve as Administrator of Washburn House, a retirement home for gracious living in Worcester from 1986 until her death. She is survived by sisters Isabel Longmire, Annapolis Royal; Joyce (Winslow) Kaye, Hillsburn; son Richard MacIntosh, Wellsley, Mass; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Barbara Taylor and niece Nancy (Taylor) Brown. A memorial service will be held at Hillsburn United Baptist Church on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at 2:00 pm.
