Get ready for Shinerama!

The Acadia University Shinerama Team was out recently practicing with water and sponges for their upcoming Shine Day Saturday, Sept. 6.

The team washed and polished three RCMP cruisers at the Wolfville detachment recently and picked up a cheque for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

As sponsors, Pepsi-Cola Canada donated $2,500 to Acadia’s Shinerama team Aug. 24, said spokesperson Ashley Greene.

Acadia students volunteer time during frosh week for one of the biggest charity campaigns of the year in the eastern Valley, which has raised over $10,000 in a single day.

Shine Day will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at select locations in the Wolfville, New Minas and the Kentville area.

Shinerama is Canada’s largest post-secondary fundraiser, involving students at approximately 60 university and college campuses across the country annually.

Cystic fibrosis (CF), which attacks the lungs and the digestive system, is the most common fatal genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adults.

The Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has 50 volunteer chapters and funds CF research and care. In 2008, the foundation is supporting more than 50 research projects.
