August 17 to August 23, 2008 FOWLER, Alice Rita - 79, Tillsonburg, Ont., formerly of Yarmouth, passed away peacefully in Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital on Sunday, August 17, 2008, surrounded by her loving family. Loving wife and best friend of 48 years to her husband, Neville; devoted mother to Paul Fowler and his partner Kent Staines of Toronto; Marlene Sweett and her husband Stephen of Oakville, Ont.; Catherine Yates and her husband Andrew of Calgary; Shawn Fowler and his wife Linda of Red Deer; doting "Nana" to Benjamin, Hannah, Alexander, Aidan and Taylor. She is survived by her siblings, Isabelle Sweeney, Lucie Schrader, Lionel Muise and Anita Banks. She was predeceased by her parents, Laurence and Emily Muise; brothers, Gordon and Gerald Muise; sister, Celeste Muise. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the thoughts, prayers, cards, calls and visits from her friends and family throughout the country during her illness. Remains rested in Sweeny's Funeral Home, 567 Main St., Yarmouth. Visiting hours took place Thursday, August 21, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with prayers at 8 p.m. in the chapel. Funeral mass was held Friday, August 22, at 10 a.m. in St. Ambrose Cathedral, 43 Albert St., Yarmouth, with Father John MacPherson officiating. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Forest Street, Yarmouth. Donations can be made to the Marians of the Immaculate Conception. August 17 to August 23, 2008 JENKINS, Carol Ann -63, Pictou, passed away August 17, 2008 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Carol was born on March 23, 1945 in Halifax to Ethel Blackett, and the late Kenneth Blackett. She is survived by her husband, Lester Jenkins; and her four children, Lyle (Donna), Wanita (Martin), Shane (Terri) and Shelly (Jerry). She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Jade, Tylor, Zachary, Lyle Joseph, Caleb-Dain, Liam & Ethan; and her siblings, John (Marilyn), Danny (Sue), and Lynn (Danny). She will also be missed by a large extended family of several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and in-laws. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the IWK Children’s Foundation, or the Canadian Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of McLaren Funeral Service, Pictou.
August 17 to August 23, 2008 HUDGINS, Frances June (Neily)-91, of North Kingston, passed away peacefully, Monday, August 18, 2008 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in North Kingston on June 19, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Elma (McKenna) Neily. “Frannie”, as she was affectionately known by friends and neighbours, was a life long member of the Kingston United Baptist Church. For many years she volunteered raising funds for the local cemetery, Canadian Cancer Society and co-chairing the annual North Kingston dinner for the Lion’s Club. She was honoured in 2000 by the Canadian Cancer Society for being a captain in their annual campaigns for over 45 years. She lived almost all of her life in North Kingston and worked in retail in Kingston for many years. Frannie was regarded as a local historian and was frequently called upon to consult her excellent memory and sometimes her diaries to settle questions. Frannie was devoted to her community and possessed a generous spirit that many in the Kingston area will remember fondly. She also had a very independent spirit and until a recent illness had lived alone for the last 25 plus years. Many thanks to the special people in the community who have regularly dropped in to say “Hi” over the last few years. She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Barbara (Alan) VanBuskirk, Kingston, NS; Betty Magee, Three Hills, Alberta; Eileen Bezanson, Middleton; son, Neil (Carole) Reid, Tobago, W.I.; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Frannie demonstrated an indomitable spirit in raising her four children after the untimely death of her first husband Wallace Reid in 1948. She was also predeceased by her second husband, Murray Hudgins in 1982; sons-in-law, Gerald Magee and Harold Bezanson; sisters, Dorothy Poole and Marjorie Winters; brother, Melbourne Neily and grandson, David VanBuskirk. Visitation was held Friday, August 22, 2008 in the Middleton Funeral Home, where the funeral service was held Saturday, August 23, 2008. Rev. Leon Langille officiated. Interment will be in the North Kingston Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to the North Kingston Public Cemetery, Canadian Cancer Society, Kingston Baptist Church or a Charity of Choice. August 17 to August 23, 2008 ROY, Everett C. - 73, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully August 19, 2008 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Southwest Port Mouton, he was the son of the late Weldon and Lula (Fisher) Roy. Everett was a fisherman all his working life and enjoyed sport fishing in his retirement. He loved animals especially cats. He is survived by his sister Claudia Patterson of Liverpool; brothers: Frank (Rhoda) and Carman (Paulette), both of Southwest Port Mouton, and Lloyd (Judy) of Port Mouton. He was predeceased by sisters: Martha, Eunice, Joan and Caroline; brothers: Carl and Lorimer. Funeral service was held Friday, August 22, 2008 from Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. August 17 to August 23, 2008 O’CONNELL, Lorraine Frances – 68, Yarmouth, passed away on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born December 4, 1939 in Brooklyn, Yarmouth Co., she was a daughter of the late Roy and Dorcas (Muise) Surette. Lorraine was a homemaker, and her passion was baseball, being an avid Red Sox fan. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She is survived by her son, Mark (April) O’Connell, Stoney Creek, Ontario; brothers, Gary (Ann) Surette, Dayton, and Paul (Karen) Surette, Augusta, Maine; sisters, Elaine (Ernie) Doucette, Yarmouth, and Darlene (Marcel) Surette, Cedar Lake; sister-in-law, Helena Surette, Richmond Road; nieces and nephews, Lynn, Bob, Brian, Angela, David, Roy, Jesse, Bobby and Shauna. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Herman J. O’Connell, as well as a brother, Robert Surette. Cremation has taken place and there was no visitation by request. A memorial service was held at 2:00 PM, Friday, August 22 from H. M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth, Father John MacPherson officiated. August 17 to August 23, 2008 Erma Irene Thomson – 102, of Grand View Manor, Berwick, formerly of Kentville, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2008 in the manor. Born in Canning, Kings County, she was a daughter of the late William and Annie (Dargie) Goldsmith. She was a member of the United Church of St. Paul and St. Stephen, Kentville and a former member of St. Eulalie Rebekah Lodge, Kentville. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. She is survived by a son, Carl William Thomson, Upper Granville, Annapolis County; son-in-law, Dr. Bill Mason, Halifax; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, William; two daughters, Frances Mason and Lorraine Thomson; a daughter-in-law, Joanne Thomson; four sisters, Helen Hiltz, Muriel Harrison, Frances Woodburn and Mona Steves; an infant sister, Lorraine Goldsmith and a brother, Malcolm Goldsmith. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there was no visitation by family request. A private family graveside service was held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, August 24, 2008 in the Hillaton Cemetery, Kings County, Reverend Doctor Randy Crozsman officiated. August 17 to August 23, 2008 McCullough, Ronald Sydney 1930 – 2008 - We would like to tell you about Ron, our husband / dad weighing anchor and shipping out. It’s time for joy and excitement and a hearty “Bon Voyage” as he sails to a better place beyond the sunset. We are thankful for the years God had given him plus for his parents Harold and Sarah McCullough, Sheldon, two infant brothers, his sister Erna and granddaughter Stacy Nagel who predeceased him. He was grateful for Anna his helpmate for 52 years, daughters Karen (Tom) Nagel, Regina (Kim) Black and Leanne, grandchildren Nick and Jann Black, Melissa (Tim) Heerebout, great grandchildren Ashton Scott Black and Layla Grayce Heerebout .As well as his sisters Beulah Burns, Nettie (Burton) Outhouse, Margaret (Neil) Davidson, brothers Emmerson, Nelson (Dottie), Douglas (Alice) and all of his nieces, nephews and cousins who each added to his life. Ron was born in Tiddville Digby County N.S., fifth in a household of eleven. His occupation was haddock and lobster fishing in the area and moving to Yarmouth in 1948 to fish with his brother in-law. There he met Anna (belle) and they married in1955. In 1973 they moved to Kamloops BC. residing there until they retired in 1991. Upon retiring they became snowbirds spending the winters in South California, Yuma and Mexico. Their remaining years were spent in Kamloops, where Ron enjoyed fishing trips to Tranquille Lake, Revelstoke Dam and lots of the fishing holes in the area. Ron and Anna enjoyed golfing and the trips they were able take with their dear friends to different golf courses Ron touched the hearts of many with his wit, wisdom and cheeky grin. His talent as a mechanic served him well from fixing bicycles and lawn mowers to all types of vehicles. His amazing talent for fixing things saved many a person from hours of dismay, inconvenience and unnecessary costs. He is leaving behind many happy memories for many friends whose friendship he and Anna enjoyed over the years. Ron’s journey was not uncharted as he passed through the valley of the shadow of death. God’s hands were on the helm as He guided him to the heavenly haven He had prepared for him. A Memorial Service was held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Kamloops Evangelical Free Church 1132-8th Street, Kamloops, Pastor Rob Cave officiated. Donations may be sent in Ron’s memory to the B.C. Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Lung Association. August 17 to August 23, 2008 Evelyn Elizabeth McCarrol - 81, Berwick Kings Co. It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of a beloved mother, grandmother and friend, on Wednesday August 20, 2008 in the V.G. Site Hospital, Halifax. Born in Somerset, she was a daughter of the late Manson and Eva (Sawlor) Redden. Evelyn was an active member of the Berwick Baptist Church, the church choir, the MacPherson Auxiliary and was a member of several bridge clubs. She worked as a licensed hair dresser in the Berwick area for many years. She will be sadly missed by her many family and friends. Evelyn is survived by her son, David (Brenda) McCarrol, Waterville; daughter Patricia (Stephen) Shand, St. Albert, Alb.; 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; several cousins and her special friend, Carl Bancroft. Besides her parents, Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Sgt. Neil McCarrol (RCAF); granddaughter, Karen MacPhail; brothers, Lorimer and Robert Redden and her sister, Frances MacArthur. There was no visitation by the family’s request. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday August 23, 2008 in the Berwick Baptist Church, Rev. Marilyn Rose officiated.
