Hazelton finishes third at Summer Skate Invitational
James Hazelton of Digby placed third overall in the pre-novice men's category at the Central Ontario Summer Skate Invitational on Aug. 15. His score of 64.22 was a personal best.
Hazelton placed second in the freeskate portion of the event with a personal best freeskate segment sore of 43.20.
Hazelton landed six double jumps in his freeskate segment including a double axel and a double axel - double toeloop combination.
He also executed a level 4 change combo spin. Level 4 is the highest level awarded by the ISU (International Skating Union).
Hazelton competed with skaters from New Brunswick, Ontario and Australia in this competition.
Hazelton is the highest ranked pre-novice man in Atlantic Canada based on the 2007-2008 Eastern Challenge results and was ranked number 17 nationally.
Hazelton is also a member of the Skate Canada Nova Scotia Performance team of Excellence. There were only 9 skaters at all levels who qualified for this team during the past season.
