There were 16 tuna caught during this year’s Wedgeport, N.S. Tuna Tournament, with the bluefins brought ashore ranging from 178 to 416 pounds, along with one 43-pound albacore.

Each participant vessel was allowed to catch two bluefin tuna. Of the 10 boats that took part, seven landed two bluefins each, one boat had one and two didn’t catch any.

The vessel Cameron John – with Pat Jacquard, Craig Wallace and Albert Gaudet on the water – had the largest total weight at 735 pounds. Their two tuna weighed 319 and 416 pounds.

Coming in at a close second was the female crew of Falon LeBlanc, Jocelyne LeBlanc and Kelley LeBlanc onboard the Ol East Sider, whose total weight was 730 pounds. Their two fish each weighed 365 pounds.

After the weigh-ins the tuna were auctioned off to buyers, with bids ranged from $4.25 a pound to a high of $10.50 per pound, which was paid for the one 343-pound tuna landed by the vessel Provider.

This was first time tuna weigh-ins from a tournament took place at the Tuna Wharf since the international tuna matches ended in the mid-1970s.
