Thurber steps down as ADEDA chair
Municipality of Digby warden James Thurber has stepped down as chair of the Annapolis Digby Economic Development Agency after its first year of operation.
A statement from the agency following its annual general meeting July 24 said the new chair is Annapolis County warden Peter Newton. While no reason was given for Thurber’s departure, personal issues are believed responsible.

Other new executive board members are also from Annapolis County. Vice-chair is Paul Stackhouse, who heads the Annapolis Region Tourism Council, and secretary-treasurer is Gerald Hackenschmidt, the county’s chief financial officer.

In the agency’s first annual report, managing director Mike Gushue described initiatives underway in renewable energy, tourism and geomatics.

He said the agency has spent considerable time and resources in support of the Digby-Saint John ferry service, an issue that has implications for all sectors of the local economy.
