26th Annual Bishop Reunion set for Aug. 9
In 1982, Rev. William Marshall Bishop of Wolfville was instrumental in gathering together the descendants of New England Planter John Bishop (1709-1785) and his four sons: John Jr., William, Peter and Timothy.
The first Bishop Family Reunion was held that year in Wolfville with approximately 500 descendants from all over North America in attendance.
The Bishop Family Association (BFA) has carried on the tradition in the years since, keeping in touch through annual gatherings and a family newsletter that is circulated three times a year to more than 350 members in Canada, the U.S., England and France.
This year’s annual gathering will take place Saturday, Aug. 9 with the BFA annual meeting beginning at 10 a.m. at the Greenwich United Church, followed by a turkey dinner and an interactive multimedia presentation by Ken Bezanson featuring Port Williams, the Valley’s ‘inland port’, entitled ‘The Days the Ships Came’.
