July 20 to July 26, 2008 continued Paul William Lloyd - was born in Berwick, NS in 1929. Paul passed away quietly at the Oromocto Public Hospital with his family by his side at the age of 78. He spent twelve years in the Canadian Armed Forces serving his country until he was medically discharged. He then worked as a foreman at UNB and also at Base Gagetown. He was then self-employed until he was not able to work any longer. He was a member of the Legion Branch #93 in Oromocto for 23 years. He was a very caring husband and father and was liked by all who knew him. Surviving Paul is his wife, Evelyn (Smith) Lloyd; children, Brenda (Carl) Hilchey, Michael (Kathy) Lloyd, Derek Lloyd, Kevin Lloyd, Carolyn (Steven) White, Christine (Michael) Henry, Theodore (Kelly) Mahar; 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, whom he loved very much; sister, Joyce (Hayden) Tremere and brother, Hugh Lloyd. Paul is predeceased by his parents, Hugh and Christine (Lee) Lloyd as well as several aunts and uncles. There was no service by request. A graveside service will be held at a later date in the Geary, French Lake, Waterville Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the NB Lung Association. July 20 to July 26, 2008 continued Elizabeth Lorane Canning, - 60, of Lumby B.C. formerly of Cambridge, passed away suddenly Wednesday July 23, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Millville, she was a daughter of Regina (Copage) and the late Bernard Toney. Elizabeth worked in nursing. She was a very caring person, she had her long hair cut short and gave it to the Children’s Cancer Society for wigs. She loved playing bingo and cards. Elizabeth is remembered as a lovable, fun person. She will be sadly missed by her many family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Terrence Canning, Lumby, B.C.; adopted son, Shane; mother, Regina Toney, Cambridge; brothers, Gerald, Cambridge, Allan (Marilyn), Cambridge, Brian, Cambridge, Mark (Charlene), Cambridge, Wayne (Ronda), Calgary; sisters, Eileen (Garnet) Lloyd, Waterville, Sandra Usher, Cambridge; special niece, Debra Toney; special friend, Al Farquhar; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Besides her father, Elizabeth was predeceased by her brother David, 1 brother in infancy; 3 sisters in infancy; brother-in-law, Robert Usher. July 20 to July 26, 2008 continued MURPHY, Bernadine Marie – 68, Upper Wedgeport, Yarmouth County, passed away suddenly on Friday, July 25, 2008 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born June 5, 1940 in Yarmouth, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Leona (Jacquard) Pothier. Bernadine worked as a school teacher for 35 years, having taught at schools in Amirault’s Hill, Wedgeport, and Plymouth, from where she retired. She was a tireless and devoted volunteer, never refusing a call for help. She was the treasurer of the Wedgeport Seniors’ Club, past secretary of the Wedgeport Sport Tuna Fishing Museum, and she gave much of her time to both Saint Michael’s parish, as well as to the Wedgeport and District Fire Department. In her spare time, Bernadine enjoyed knitting, swimming, playing the piano and line dancing with the Senior’s Kickin’ Country dance group. Although she loved traveling, her true passion was her family – she loved her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her loving daughters, Brenda (John) MacIntosh, Upper Wedgeport, and Beverly (Gary) Goodwin, Wedgeport, as well as by her wonderful grandchildren, Jennifer, Marc, Larissa, Alison, Courtney and Molly. Also surviving is a brother, David (Suzanne) Pothier, Upper Wedgeport, as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Lonnie J. Murphy. Visitation took place from 7-9 p.m. Monday, with prayers at 8 o’clock, both in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Wedgeport. The funeral mass was held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 29, from Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, Msgr. Gerald LeBlanc officiated, assisted by Father Wieslaw Papuga. July 20 to July 26, 2008 continued MUISE, Mary Cecile – 92, Amirault’s Hill, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully on Friday, July 25, 2008 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born May 22, 1916 in Amirault’s Hill, she was a daughter of the late Mandé and Elizabeth Muise. Mary was a homemaker, and she was a woman of great faith, and her loving family continue to draw much strength from that faith. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are her children, Cecile Muise, Amirault’s Hill; Leo (Ruth) Muise, Yarmouth; Mildred (Elmer) Hubbard, Amirault’s Hill; Linda (John) Amiro, Surette’s Island; Pauline (Francis) Pottier, Hubbard’s Point; Bobby (Sylvie) Muise, Ottawa; Gerald (Renette) Muise, Amirault’s Hill; grandchildren, Wayne, Carrie Anne, Colin, Darren, Nicole, Cynthia, Rachel, Chanelle and Danielle; great-grandchildren, Vincent, Michael, Matthew, Justin, Robert, Chelsea and Abby. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Narcisse; a son, George Muise; daughters, Geneva Hennigar and Annette Muise, in infancy; brothers, Hector, Tommy and Dennis Muise; sisters, Charlotte Amirault and Irene Muise. Visitation took place from 7-9 Monday, with prayers at 8 PM, both in H M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. July 20 to July 26, 2008 continued PERRY, Lorena Minetta (Sanford) 93, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 25, 2008 with her family by her side. She was born in Walton, N.S. on August 21, 1914 and was the daughter of the late Payson and Mary (Stillman) Sanford. After graduating from Normal College in 1932 she moved to Ingomar, where she enjoyed a 25 year teaching career. She resided in Sandy Point in her later years and took pleasure in the harbour view from her sunroom. Surviving are daughters Janet (Mike) Thorburn, Sandy Point, Athalia (Forman Jr.) Newell, Barrington and sons, Loren Perry, Ingomar, Basil Hennesey, Ontario. She is also survived by grandchildren, Lisa (Matt) Haliburton, Leigh (Suzanne) Thorburn, Lorena (Robert) Bell, Dwayne, Derrick, Darren (Lisa) Newell, Lianne, Mark Perry, Krista (Cory) Nash, and great grandchildren, Claire and Liam Haliburton, Hannah Thorburn, Isaac Bell, Chad, Madison, Nathan, and Nadine Newell, Madeleine, Isabella and Eric Nash, Abygael Perry; brother Arnold (Doris) Sanford, Walton, sister Marjorie Barbrick, P.E.I., and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Bernard, infant granddaughter Charlotte Newell and siblings Alice Smith, Ruby Sanford, Alma Jones, Audrey Worr, Grace Young, Allison Sanford, Avon Sanford and John Sanford. Lorena was a loyal and faithful supporter of the United Church for over 70 years and an organist for 60 of those. She was a charitable and generous woman with many talents and hobbies, which included quilting, crocheting, embroidery, scrapbooking, gardening and entertaining. Lorena was a knowledgeable and well-respected person. She approached her life with strength, grace, and dignity and will always be an inspiration to her family. Funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 29 at St. Paul’s United Church in Carleton Village with Rev. Cindy Dunnett officiating. Interment took place in the Ingomar Community Cemetery. July 20 to July 26, 2008 continued Pierce, Helen Anne, 1940 – 2008. A Christian burial ceremony will be conducted by Rev. John Hammond at the East Sable River Cemetery on Wednesday, August 6 at 2:00 p.m. Friends, family and guests are invited to the home of Hugh and Tricia Pierce at #1826 East Sable Road, following the service. Helen Anne was the wife of John Pierce, eldest son of Marshall (deceased) and Alice Pierce of East Sable and New Smyrna Beach, Florida. She succumbed to injuries sustained in an auto accident while on route to her residence at East Sable. Helen was recently retired from a career as Spa Director, including those of Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Vermont and Colorado. She is remembered as a gracious hostess, in possession of an attractive smile, a hard worker, and a lover of texture, color and the Nova Scotia rug and wall hooking art. Her husband, family and friends know her as one of life’s winners.
July 20 to July 26, 2008 continued WHITE, Barry Andrew B., 59, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 25, 2008 in the arms of his only daughter Kylia and surrounded by his loving family at the V.G. Hospital, Halifax after a long battle with liver disease. Born in Lockeport on December 1, 1948 he was the son of the late Ruby K. Townsend-White-Brewer and Edgar White of Lockeport. Barry enjoyed a successful career working as a councilor with the Youth in Crisis for Drug Dependency in Halifax. He enjoyed traveling, bicycling, spending vacations with Kylia and the kids in Ottawa. He enjoyed entertaining with his family and friends. Barry worked tirelessly to plan and execute family get-togethers, particularly the huge family reunion in 2006. Besides his only child Kylia Arlene White (Kelly O’Neill) and grandsons Kelsy and Kyle of Ottawa, he is also survived by brothers, Arden (Marilyn) Woods Harbour, Doyle (Wanda), Lr. Sackville, Brent and Ainsley, both of Vancouver, B.C., Preston, London, Ontario; Robbie (Cindy) Abbotsford, B.C., sisters, Amber and Crystal both of Bridgewater, Yolanda, Shelburne, Rhonda (Dave), B.C. Polly Anna (Mike) Liverpool, N.S., as well as many nieces and nephews. Barry was predeceased by his son, Troy, brother, Jamie, sister, Teresa and his “Dad” Captain Edwin Brewer. Cremation has been carried out under the direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Shelburne. A Celebration of Life was held in memory of Barry at the Shelburne Harbour Yacht Club, 7 George St., on Monday, July 28. Interment will be held at the Lockeport Cemetery at a later date. July 20 to July 26, 2008 continued Flora Katherine Bush, 91 – Halifax, passed away July 25, 2008 at the Berkeley Retirement Home, Green Street, Halifax. Born in Warner, New Hampshire, she was the daughter of Chester and Grace (Skinner) Lovering. Flora taught elementary school in the Annapolis Valley, Halifax, and Dartmouth for many years and upon retirement was active in adult literacy and the Retired Teachers Association. She attended St. Andrew’s United Church. Flora was a resident of Spring Garden Terrace for 40 years and had a great love for the Public Gardens. She is survived by son, David (Susan), Cambridge, England; grandchildren, Daniel, Jonathan, Hannah, Miriam; six great-grandchildren; and niece, Ellen Henry, Pittsford, N.Y. Predeceased by sister, Norma Henry. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Cruikshank’s Halifax Funeral Home. A memorial service was held 10 AM Monday, August 4 at St. Andrew’s United Church, Halifax. Interment followed at 3 PM at Berwick Cemetery, Berwick. July 20 to July 26, 2008 continued LEOPOLD, Grace Margaret, age 82, of Windsor, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2008, in the Windsor Elms Village, King Street, Windsor. Grace was born March 6, 1926, in New Germany, Lunenburg County, and was the daughter of the late Henderson and Alice (Carver) Rhoddy. She worked as a door-to-door housekeeper; was a cook and a baker at Walker’s Restaurant in Windsor for many years; she also kept children in her home and cared for sick family members. She had many hobbies, which included walking, driving and sight seeing, music, gardening, knitting, needlework, wood working (such as window, door casings, floors, wooden ornaments and painting them), sewing, games, and bowling. She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Sterling) Mugridge, Eastern Passage; grandsons, James Wade (Maureen) Lorencovitch, Eastern Passage; Robert Frank Lorencovitch, Dartmouth; great-grandchildren, Johnathon and Alik Pyne; Mikayla Crouse and Allena Lorencovitch; half-sisters, Shirley Barkhouse, Canning; Marjorie Saulnier, Kentville; Paulette Hersey, New Minas; brothers, Donald Rhoddy, Scarborough, ON; half-brother, Ronald Croft, Canning; step-grandsons, Steven (Rose Ann) Mugridge; Craig Mugridge, both of Summerside, PEI; step-grandchildren, Danae, Evan, Dylan, Alyssa, and Cole; extended family members, Joan “Sis” Crouse Corkum, Bear River, who was as close as any sister or daughter could be from start to finish; Trisha Pyne, Dartmouth; Crystal Hunter, Summerside, PEI; Lynn Lorencovitch, Dartmouth; Miranda Ashley, Summerside, PEI; and many more.
