Sorry, Disney World, he’s not interested. Medicine Hat’s Austin Corbett wants to come to Digby, Nova Scotia. The Make-A-Wish Foundation is ensuring it happens.
Austin, his parents, Brian and Tammy, and sister Madison will roll into town just in time for Scallop Days. That event happily coincides with the 50th wedding anniversary of Austin’s grandparents, Anna and Danny Corbett.

‘Make-A-Wish’ fulfills the special wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. Austin has cystic fibrosis.

His grandparents say Austin was ill this past spring, but he’s bounced back and is himself again. “And he’s an incredibly active boy,” they say.

It’s a good thing, because Austin will have a jam-packed schedule during his four days in Digby. His family will be flying into Halifax the evening of Aug. 7, then driving their rental car to Digby where they will be staying at the Digby Pines Resort and Spa.

Whale watching is one of the activities Austin is most interested in, so that’s part of the plan. So is Upper Clements Park. He’ll also be parade marshal in Saturday’s Scallop Days grand parade, riding on the float with Dwight d’Eon of Canadian Idol fame. And he’ll be judging the children’s parade.

His grandparents say there will be a family dinner at the Pines in celebration of their anniversary. All four of their children will be home and Austin and his sister will have the opportunity to meet family members, including cousins, they’ve never met before.

Monday is a day to relax, before Austin and his family travels to Halifax for that city’s Busker’s Festival.
