The first of five Loyalist teas sponsored by the Municipality of Digby was held Saturday at Sissiboo Landing in Weymouth.
The teas celebrate the 225th anniversary of the Loyalist landing in Digby County after the American Revolution.

Program coordinator Robert Hersey said Loyalists who came in 1783 had a significant impact on the development of the area.

“The Loyalists added a whole new culture to our province, especially Digby County,” said Hersey. “They changed the whole landscape and the direction the province took as it grew and developed in that century.”

Hersey added that many families in the area trace their roots to Loyalist roots.

The next Loyalist tea will be held Aug. 17 at 1 p.m. in Freeport Community Hall.
