Haliburton House on the Big Screen this week

Once again, Windsor will feature at the movies. The Haliburton House Museum in Windsor appeared larger than life Friday, July 25, during the release of Just Buried at select theaters across Canada.

The dark comedy is about a young man who inherits a funeral home in a small town where nobody is dying. Oliver (Jay Barchuel) and his embalmer girlfriend (Rose Byren) start bumping off town folk to drum up business.

Several scenes were filmed on location at the Haliburton House, which stood in as the funeral home during the November 2006 production.

Just Buried has won accolades both at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Atlantic Film Festival and was ‘Winner of the Fest’ for the Santa Cruz Film Festival.

Haliburton House senior heritage interpreter Jason Tucker hopes the premiere will be a good promotion for the museum. “The Nova Scotia Museums is always happy to be involved in these film productions.”

Although Tucker was not on staff that year, he’s still pretty excited to see museum where he works up on the big screen. “I’m looking forward seeing it this weekend; it looks like a great movie.”

Just Buried will be playing at the Empire 17 Cinema at Bayer’s Lake, Halifax.
