Prescott House is a fun place to be for children this summer. On Tues., July 29 (rain date July 30) kids five-and-up can cast off for treasure in the gardens. Learn about pirates and privateers of the 1800s.

On Tues., Aug. 5 (rain date Aug. 6) from 10 a.m. to noon, there will be a magical morning of fun for children five-and-up. Pre-register by July 31.

For both workshops, the cost its $5. Space is limited so pre-register by calling the museum at 542-3984. Dress for the weather, wear sunscreen and a hat. A snack will be provided.

New for 2008 are the Thursday Art Workshops that started July 10 and continue until Aug. 14. They will run from 10 a.m. to noon and are for all ages. The cost is $5.

Explore the finer points of drawing, painting and creating art. Pre-register by the Monday before the workshop. Space is limited. Snack provided.

There’s a lot going on at the library this summer. Every Wednesday during July and August, there will be a Kids' Camp at the Library from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. for kids ages 5-8. Please contact the library for more information.

A Teen Lounge will be held every Thursday night throughout the summer from 6:30-8 p.m. Come along to hang out and play computer games.

The teen lounge Thurs., Aug. 21 will be one to remember. There will be a marathon Wii, DDR, computer games and anime session for teens at the library from 3-7 p.m. Pizza and snacks will be provided.

For anyone interested, the Library is offering one-on-one computer tutorials on topics such as Internet Security, Digital Cameras, or any other topic of interest.

Many local kids and teens have joined the Annapolis Valley Regional Library's annual Summer Reading Program Hang Out and Read and some have already earned their free FastPass from our Summer Reading Partner, Upper Clements Park. Other great prizes can be won just by reading and entering our contests!

The Kings County 4-H Achievement Days will be held Thursday and Friday, Aug. 7-8 at the Glooscap Arena in Canning. This year’s theme is “A Step to the Future.”

The show starts at 9 a.m. Thursday and 9:30 a.m. Friday. See judging and displays of a variety of projects including: photography, rabbit, poultry, welding, crafts, beef, dairy, woodworking, dog obedience, sewing and livestock classes.

The public is most welcome! Come support your local 4-H clubs!

“Avalanche Ranch” is the Daily Vacation Bible School program being held at the Baptist church this summer. Children age five to Grade 5 are invited to attend.

Come gather at the church each morning, Aug. 11-15, from 9 a.m. until noon for lots of fun, music, laughter and learning. Plan to attend, and bring your friends!

The Cottage Country Quilts and Crafts sponsored by the St. John’s Anglican Church Women will be held Sat., Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the St. John’s Parish Hall. There will be quilts, afghans, baby quilts, and hand-knit sweaters as well as a wide selection of hand-crafted items and jams and jellies. Freewill admission. A yard sale and hot dog barbecue will happen also.
