Open fire ban lifted
A ban on open fires in all areas of Nova Scotia ended on July 23.

Rain from tropical storm Cristobal has reduced the risk of fires, therefore lifting the ban.

Rob Uttaro, Department of Natural Resources fire management supervisor, is encouraging Nova Scotians to continue to use caution when having fires in or around woodlands.

He reminds everyone to have the means to control or extinguish fires and be cautious of changing weather conditions such as wind.

A provincial burning permit is required when having a fire within three hundred and five metres of the woods.

Landowners should also contact their municipal government office to see if they require any additional permits.

Report forest fires by calling 911 or 1-800-565-2224.
