July 13 to July 19, 2008 continued WHYNOT, Horace R. - 65, of Liverpool, Queens Co., passed away peacefully in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Liverpool, he was the son of the late Raymond and Edith (Anthony) Whynot. Horace was a member of the Queens Association of Supportive Living in Milton. He participated in Special Olympics for many years. He loved to do woodworking, yard work and decorating for Christmas. Horace is survived by his sister Elizabeth Whynot of Liverpool and his brother Basil (Sandra Lowe) of Liverpool; nieces: May Whynot, Ann Whynot and Nicole Whynot; nephews Raymond Whynot and Ricky Whynot. He was predeceased by several infant sisters and brothers. Funeral service was held Monday, July 21, 2008 in Chandlers' Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. Rev. Fred Carr officiated. A private family burial will be held at a later date following cremation. Family flowers only, donations may be made to Queens Association for Supportive Living or Special Olympics. July 13 to July 19, 2008 continued Audrey Christine Taylor (nee Best) – passed away peacefully, at the Peter D. Clark Retirement Home in Ottawa, Ontario on December 19, 2007 in her 90th. year. Predeceased by her husband Laird Taylor and survived by her son Donald and beloved grandmother of Stephen, Jeffrey and Meagan. Audrey wished to be buried in the Best family plot at the Berwick Cemetery. The family welcomes all relatives and friends who may wish to pay their last respects to Audrey for a short interment service at the graveside to be held on Monday, July 28th. at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so can make a memorial donation to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada.
July 13 to July 19, 2008 continued MacDONALD, Margaret “Margie” – 62, of Arcadia, Yarmouth County, died Wednesday, July 16 at the Q. E. II Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Shaun and Clare (Murphy) MacDonald. She graduated from Holy Angels High School, and later worked in the labs at St. Rita Hospital, Sydney, and the IWK Hospital, Halifax. An avid sports fan, she was also a keen bass fisher, but her greatest joy came from her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Laurie MacDonald, and children, Shaun and Jody (Jonathan) Kini; her three granddaughters, Katherine, Ella and Carly; a sister, Clare (Bill) Marshall, Nackawic, N. B.; brothers, Maurice (Jackie), Cornwallis Park; Brian (Arlene), Reserve Mines; Rod (Valerie), Lower Sackville; Timothy, Dartmouth; brother-in-law, Dan (Nancy) MacDonald. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Jennifer, and a brother, Jerry. Visitation took place from 7 to 9 Thursday evening in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. The funeral mass took place at 10 AM, Friday, July 18 from Saint Ambrose Cathedral, 43 Albert Street, Yarmouth, Father John MacPherson officiated. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Yarmouth. It was requested that there be family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the IWK Health Centre Foundation (Renal Unit). July 13 to July 19, 2008 continued Kimberley Elizabeth Rose – 43, of Coldbrook, Kings County, passed away Friday, July 18, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Halifax, Kim is the daughter of Eugene “Gene” and Dorothy “Dot” (Spence) Howard, Coldbrook. She had been employed with Acadia University for many years and was most recently the Director of Continuing Education. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her amazing children and supporting all of their sporting achievements. She spent many happy hours sitting in a rink, a soccer field, or court side cheering as their #1 fan. She also enjoyed shopping, walking with her friends, more shopping, avoiding housework, and did we mention shopping. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Jimmy; four children, Emma, Coldbrook; Derek, Emily and Sara, all at home; her sister, Pam (Richard) Biggs, Halifax; maternal grandmother, Ethel Spence, Windsor; two sisters-in-law, Karen (Kelvin) Wallace, Falmouth; Tammy (Andrew) Rose-Hilden, Oshawa, Ontario; six nieces and nephews, Maggie, Luke, Brett, Casey, Lucas and Addison; aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Frank Spence; paternal grandparents, Eugene and Margaret Howard. Kim is an inspiration for all those whose lives are impacted by cancer. She has shown us that it can be overcome with hope and determination to live each day to the fullest. Kim’s strength was driven by the love of her family and friends and to prove that there is always hope for the future. There are no words to express how much she is loved. We carry her in our hearts. Cremation has taken place and there was no visitation by family request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Father Craig Christenson officiated. Family flowers only, by request. In support of breast cancer research, Kim led the “Rosebuds” team in the Run for the Cure. To honour her memory, her family will continue this tradition. July 13 to July 19, 2008 continued CURRIE, Donald Silver - Donald S. Currie, 81, of Ellershouse, Hants Co., died Friday, July 18, 2008, at his home, where he was born 81 years ago. He was the son of the late Wm. Silver and Etta (Prest) Currie. He spent three and a half years with British Commonwealth Air Training plan with students from R.A.F. who took their elementary training 1941-1944. Donald was a member of many Military Reserve Bands: 88th Field Bty., 47th Anti Tank Regt., 14th Field Regt. and West Nova Scotia Regt. He was appointed Bandmaster West Nova Scotia Regt. Band in August 1975 to December 1982 with rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He was a member of Windsor Citizens Band of which he became Bandmaster. He spent 28 years with Nova Scotia Power as a Leading Lineman. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Hants County Branch No. 009, Windsor, of which he became a Life Member and spent several years as Sgt. at Arms of Legion Colour Party. He was also a member of Christ Church Anglican Choir and Men’s Club. Donald is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Elinor M. Maynard; sons, D. Dwight (Paula), Vernon, B.C.; Stirling (Shelley), Windsor; daughter, Janet (Michael) Ross, Brooklyn; grandchildren, Amy, Megan, Lynsey, Kristy, Kaitlin Currie and Scott Ross; great-granddaughter, Rylee Currie; brother, William, Halifax; sister, Margaret (David) MacDonald, West Vancouver, B.C.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and his dog “Bubba”. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by an infant brother. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lohnes - DeMont Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the family received visitors from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, and also where the Royal Canadian Legion conducted a tribute service at 7 p.m. Funeral service was held 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, in Christ Church Anglican, 543 King St., Windsor, Rev. July 13 to July 19, 2008 continued FITZGERALD, Genevieve Anne – 88, Southeast Street, Yarmouth, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital, on Friday, July 18, 2008. Born September 14, 1919 in Wedgeport, Yarmouth Co., she was a daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Saulnier) Cottreau. She worked as a weaver at Cosmos Imperial Mills, Yarmouth, and she enjoyed quilting, and more recently, scrapbooking. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, with her family being the center of her world. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are her children, Dianne (Tom) McKinlay, Yarmouth; Charles (Toni) Fitzgerald, South Ohio; Rev. Warren (Nancy) Fitzgerald, Guysborough; Donald (Elva) Fitzgerald, Raynardton; Patricia (Scott), Yarmouth; Susan (Blake) Grant, Hebron, as well as 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Alfred Benjamin Fitzgerald; sisters, Florence, Mabel, Jane, Nellie, Lena, Mathilda, Tracey, Beatrice and Regina; brothers, Wallace, Clifford, Freddie, Georgie, Andrew, Willie, Arthur, Jean-Baptiste and Gerald. Visitation took place from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Sunday, with prayers at 8 PM, both in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert St., Yarmouth. July 13 to July 19, 2008 continued Loran Robert Stewart - 82, Hortonville, Kings Co. passed away peacefully, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, on July 19, 2008 with his family at his side. He was the son of the late Corrie & Grace (Smith) Stewart of Hortonville. He operated the family farm until his retirement.. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Joan (Phillips) Stewart who faithfully cared for him through his battle with cancer. Loran is also survived by sons: Paul (Alison) and their children, Cory, Julia and Bradley; Alan (Janice) and their children, Emily, Connor and Will; David (Nancy) and their children, Alexandra, Hannah and Caitlin; daughter, Lorna (Duane Rath) and their children, Raelee and Morgan; daughter-in-law, Audrey Stewart. Loran is survived by numerous nieces & nephews who fondly called him, "Uncle Bud".Loran was predeceased by his youngest son, John Mark in 1993 and by his four sisters and their husbands; Mildred (Mark Bredin), Hazel (Don Spires), Norma (Clarence Burton) & Doris Stewart. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Valley Regional Hospital for their care and compassion over the past few months and to nurses, Shirley and Jason who made those last few hours as comfortable as possible. Visitation was held 7-9 p.m. Monday & funeral service was held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday both from the Annapolis Valley Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook. Suddenly at home on Sunday, July 13, 2008 in her 56th year. Debbie Davidson (nee Kothlow) of Pembroke, beloved wife of Larry Davidson; dearly loved mother of Kerri-Lynn Laroche (Stephen), Falls Church, VA and Shawn Davidson of Gagetown, NB; cherished grandmother to Braiden and Kennedy Laroche; dear daughter of Frank and Marjorie Strang of Nova Scotia; sister of Jim Kothlow, Linda Frame (Rob), Keith Kothlow (Debbie), Randy Kothlow (Jeannie), Glen Kothlow (Joan), Kenny Kothlow (Kathy), Perry Kothlow, Paul Kothlow (Cecile), Leah Nickerson (Dale), Caroline Young (Kevin) and Leland Strang (Paula) and the late Bill Kothlow; sister-in-law of Jocelyn Kothlow. Debbie will be sadly missed by all her nieces and nephews. A funeral mass was celebrated on Saturday, July 19 in St. Columbkille’s Cathedral, Pembroke. Interment in St. Columba’s Cemetery, Pembroke.
