July 6 to July 12, 2008 continued MORGAN, Dorothy Rollena - 72, Kentville, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2008, at home. Born in Blomidon, she was a daughter of the late Aubrey and Etta (Bennett) Fraser. She is survived by her daughters, Darlene Wentzell, Fredericton; Brenda (Roland) Barrett, Kentville; her son, Charles (Pam), New Minas; her brothers, Everett (Bessie), Inglisville; Earl (Frances), Tatamagouche; her sister, Evelyn, Middleton; her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Stephanie, Melissa, Andrew, Aaron, Allison; her great grandchildren, Owen, Manaya, Lucas, Holden, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Clinton; her brothers, Wesley, Maynard, Ralph, Vernon, George, and her sisters, Marjorie Barkhouse and Eileen Morgan. Cremation has taken place and no visitation by request. The graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Pereau Cemetery with Rev. Ellen Hunt officiating. July 6 to July 12, 2008 continued NICKERSON, Helen Mae - Halifax, formerly of Yarmouth, passed away on July 12, 2008, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Central Grove, Digby Co., she was a daughter of the late William and Annie (Powell) Delaney. Surviving are husband, Foreman, Halifax; nephew, Donald Welch (Pat), Westport; nieces, Barbara (Dave) Surette, Yarmouth, and Dorothy (Robert) Lowe, Enfield. She was predeceased by sisters, Mary and Pauline. Remains are resting in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth. There was no visitation by request. Funeral service was held in St. Ambrose Cathedral on Thursday, July 17, at 2 p.m., Father John MacPherson officiated. Interment followed in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or to a charity of choice. Besides her parents, she is survived by paternal grandparents Bill and Carol Armstrong, Spa Springs; maternal grandparents, Cheryl Burbidge, Hampton; Carl Crouse, Port Lorne and Kevin (Yvette) Warner, Dartmouth. She was predeceased by paternal grandmother Betty Armstrong. Cremation has taken place. By request, there will be no service or visitation. July 6 to July 12, 2008 continued Marguerite Churchill Howard – 80, of Bryan, Ohio, USA, passed away July 7, 2008 in Bryan Hospital. Born in Port Maitland, Yarmouth County, February 27, 1928, she was a daughter of Willard and Mary Churchill of Port Maitland, Yarmouth County. Marguerite worked as a nurse in Massachusetts for 10 years. She is survived by her husband, Robert Howard of Bryan, Ohio; sons Reginald, Robert Jr., Clayton, Butch, Richard; daughter Barbara. She was predeceased by daughter Mary, brothers Willard, Clayton, Reginald and Ashton. She is survived by sister Hazel Moses of Yarmouth. Donations may be made to Port Maitland Wesleyan Church or to Heart and Stroke Foundation.
July 6 to July 12, 2008 continued MERRY, John Harlow - 84, Bridgetown, passed away July 10, 2008, in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Smith's Cove, he was a son of the late Brenton and Charlena (Pearson) Merry. John came to Bridgetown in 1952 and opened a drug store which he operated until about 1979. He continued working at the store after he sold it. John was a member of the School Board for many years and had served as the Chairman. He was one of the first water safety instructors in Nova Scotia. He was one of the founding members of the Bridgetown Centennial Swimming Pool. John was a veteran of the Second World War, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 33 Bridgetown, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a former member of the Eden Golf and Country Club and the Bridgetown Curling Club. He was the oldest member of the Bridgetown Coffee Club. He is survived by daughters, Tamara (Jim) Verran, Bridgetown; Robin Merry, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Christina Merry (Kevin Bond), Newport; sons, Jeffrey of Texas and Richard of Lower Sackville; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by his wife Leila May Lowe; brother Eugene and sister Sheila Urquhart. Visitation was held Saturday, July 12 from the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown from where Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 33 held their service that evening. Funeral service was held Sunday, July 13 from the Bridgetown Baptist Church, Rev. Barry Aitkens officiated. Interment in Riverside Cemetery, Bridgetown. Family flowers only. A funeral service was conducted July 10, at Scott Funeral Home, Mississauga, Ontario, followed by cremation. Interment Service was held 2 p.m. Sunday August 3, in the Berwick Cemetery.
