A new collection of environmental books proves that going-green is no longer drier than dirt.
Frances Newman, regional librarian for the Annapolis Valley Regional Library said that thanks to a grant from the Resource Recovery Funding Board, the library has been able to purchase a new collection of books and DVDs for children and adults on environmental topics.
“The material is geared towards all ages and is available through all branches of the library, as well as the Bookmobile,” she said. “There’s already a waiting list for some of the books.”
Popular titles such as Sophie Uliano’s, “Gorgeously Green,” as well as Leonardo DiCaprio’s video, “The 11th Hour: Turn mankind’s darkest hour into its finest” are now available to borrow from the local library.
Topics include planning green parties and green home renovations and restorations. Other subjects range from everyday craft ideas for jewelry, costumes, and planters for the home and garden, to composting tips. Even Dummies and Idiots will find their guides to green living.
Newman said that a few titles such as, “Salvage Sisters’ Guide to Finding Style, Style in the Street and Inspiration in the Attic, and “Unbuilding: salvaging the architectural treasures of unwanted houses” are terrific reads for keen-eyed collectors who can’t wait for the county-wide clean-up days.
