THE ADVANCE
An electrical fire in Hunts Point during the early morning hours of July 17 has left a family homeless.
The fire started around 1:45 a.m. at a Mobile Home on Beech Hill. Fire crews from Liverpool and Mill Village battled the blaze for four hours, however the fire had already engulfed the home when they arrived and were unable to save it.
“Mobile homes unfortunately because of their construction and design do allow for a very fast track fire,” said Liverpool Fire Department Assistant Deputy Chief and Media Liaison, David Pazant.
Drake and Amy Keddy with their six-year-old daughter escaped from the home unharmed with the family dog and one of the cats. Unfortunately another cat was lost in the fire.
The cause of the fire may have been from the electrical wiring.
The fire started in the bathroom and the family had no insurance on the home.
The Ladies Auxiliary and the Liverpool Fire Fighters Association collected donations at the Fire Hall on Friday July 18 to help out the family. So far they have a fridge, stove, washer & dryer, complete living room set and a double bed.
They are still looking for donations of clothing, linens, kitchen items and other necessities.
The fire department will hold a variety show to benefit the family within the next couple of weeks.
