She then left Port Maitland, went to work at Eatons, Mic Mac Mall, in Dartmouth, where she lived briefly with her daughter, Lona and her family. She loved to knit and quilt, and over the years, created many now cherished creations for her family. She loved to travel, and although it didn’t happen often, she loved to see the different sights that travel offered. She loved the taste of good food, playing cards, tending to her flower gardens, getting together with her family, especially her great-granddaughters whom she was enjoying watching growing up and changing into beautiful young ladies. She never missed anyone’s birthday or a special occasion. She took pride in doing things the honest way, never wanting to offend others and always doing good deeds just to see people smile, nothing more. After her affliction with ill health, she loved to pass the time on her computer, chatting with her friends and family that were not fortunate enough to be nearby, and feeding her addiction to the online game of Scrabble. Teaching Nan about the workings of a computer and the “world wide web” was an experience in itself. Many a great laugh was had by all. She was so looking forward to the summer by the lake in Carleton so she could spend her time with her “Dear Hearts”, as she referred to her great-granddaughters. Carleton was a place that she could look out of every window and enjoy the lake, the trees and hear the birds sing from her bed. "Nan" was such a beautiful and great lady, always giving to others and never once asking anything in return. She continues to give of herself, as it was her wish for no funeral service, and to donate her remains to Dalhousie Medical Research. There will be a private family committal service in Port Maitland Beaver River Cemetery at a later date. Donations in her name can be sent to the Canadian Cancer Society c/o "The Lodge That Gives", a place that she held a deep respect for, Yarmouth Argyle Homecare Services or to the Yarmouth branch of the Victorian Order of Nurses. The family wish to thank Dr. Shelagh Leahey for helping secure Nan’s wish to be at home with her family, Sheila D’eon R.N. for all her special calls and visits, friends Roxanne Surette and Danny Deveau for their countless hours of care, Nan’s niece Cindy Thibodeau for making sure her mother Ruby was able to visit, to Rev. Donald and Hazel Moses for their visits and prayers, Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Dr. Brian Lyons, Dr. Winston Wertlen, Dr. Paul Legere, Dr. Cwajna and her nurse Laverne, the many paramedics and E.R. nurses who called her “Nan”. Nan was so happy to meet all of her new friends. Never will she be forgotten…’til we meet again in a better place…we love you Nan.
