July 6 to July 12, 2008 continued Lois Elizabeth Parker – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lois E. (Lane) Parker on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville following a short battle with brain cancer. Born in Morden, she was a daughter of the late Walter “Budd” and Helen (Cohoon) Lane. She was a beloved wife of the late Garnet D. Parker of Aylesford and is survived by her daughter, Susan (Martin) Porskamp, Sheffield Mills; her son, Christopher Parker, Toronto; three granddaughters, Adrienne, Emily and Allison Porskamp, whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by her dear sister, Freda (McMahon) Carter, Wolfville; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Lois worked as an insurance agent for 30 years with H. A. Horsnell General Insurance, Aylesford and was active in her community throughout the years. She was a steward of all animals and had enough love for all of them and was a passionate gardener. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by an infant son; her beloved sister, Alice Smith; two brothers-in-law, Duncan Smith and Kenneth McMahon. She was very gracious and selfless during her life, always putting others before herself. She loved spending time with her family and especially enjoyed singing with her two sisters whenever they were together. She was a true friend to many. Cremation has taken place. Visitation took place from 7-9 p.m. with prayers held at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2008 in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kentville, Father Craig Christenson officiated. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Cemetery, Ridge Road, Wolfville. Family flowers only, by request. July 6 to July 12, 2008 continued MATTHEWS, Elizabeth “Gail”, 63, Shelburne, passed away in the Halifax Infirmary Tuesday, July 8, 2008. Born in Milton, Queen’s Co., she was a daughter of the late Samuel Borden and Madeline( Labrador) Wentzell. She devoted most of her life to staying home looking after her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved playing bingo and enjoyed her Christmas Club. She worked at several fish plants throughout Shelburne County. She is survived by her husband, George; sons, Edward (Wendy), West Green Harbour; Mark (Mariya), Kentville; daughters, Madeline (Sidney), Shag Harbour: Alison, at home; Heather (Jesse), Halifax; brother, Edward (Georgia) Wentzell; half-brother, Paul, Halifax; sisters, Madelyn (Danny) Ellis, Calgary; Thelma (Richard) MacIntosh, Jordan Falls; grandchildren, Lynn, Cole, William, Chase, Sarah. She was predeceased by brother, Eric; half-brother, Ted. Funeral service was held on Saturday, July 12, 2008 in H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Chapel with Rev. Matthew Sponagle officiating. July 6 to July 12, 2008 continued Nema (Greenwood) Gallagher, 98, of West Hartford Avenue died July 8, 2008 in the St. Camillus Health Care Center. She was the wife of the late James E. Gallagher who died in 1954. Mrs. Gallagher worked as a Nurse's Aide and Licensed Practical Nurse at the former Saint Vincent's Hospital in Worcester, presently the Worcester Medical Center, for 15 years prior to her retirement. Mrs. Gallagher was born March 1, 1910 in Shag Harbor, Nova Scotia Canada, the daughter of the late Lester and Charlotte (Cook) Greenwood and attended Nova Scotia public schools. She had been a resident of Nova Scotia prior to moving to Uxbridge in 1954. Mrs. Gallagher attended the North Uxbridge Baptist Church. She was a member of the Uxbridge Senior Center and the Royal Travelers of RI. She enjoyed traveling in her retirement. Mrs. Gallagher is survived by one son Lester J. Gallagher of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia; three daughters, Joan C. Wood of Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, Marion B. Castonguay of Uxbridge, and Ann S. Pantani of Whitinsville; 19 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Neil A. Gallagher, a daughter Carol M. Penney, and her brother Clifford Greenwood. Funeral services were held Fri., July 11, 2008 at 2 PM in the BUMA FUNERAL HOME, 101 North Main St. (Rt. 122) Uxbridge, MA 01569. Interment followed in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Linwood Ave., Whitinsville, MA 01588. Calling hours were Fri., July 11, 2008, from 1-2 PM, prior to the service in the funeral home.
July 6 to July 12, 2008 continued Margaret Blanche Schurman - 91, Berwick, Kings Co., passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2008, in the Transitional Care Unit of Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born October 14, 1916, in Grafton, Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late Milford and Myrtle (Brown) Pierce. Margaret was a member of Berwick Baptist Church and the MacPherson Auxiliary. She was also a member of Central Kings Crusaders Senior's Group and an avid 45's card player. Margaret enjoyed attending the United Church Camp Meeting and stayed in the family cottage many summers. She is survived by her children, Janet Custance, Truro; Linda (Alan Knowles), New Minas; Alan (Karen) Schurman, Berwick; Eric (Louise) Schurman, South Berwick; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Herman Pierce, Grafton; sisters, Helena Porter, New Brunswick; Verna Pierce, Ontario; Phyllis (Paul) Turner, British Columbia; sister-in-law, Bessie Frellick, Liverpool and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred Oakes Schurman and son-in-law, James Custance. There was no visitation by Margaret's request. Funeral service took place 10 a.m. Friday, July 11, in H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, Berwick. Rev. Ivan Norton officiated, with Interment in Berwick Cemetery. Family flowers only. July 6 to July 12, 2008 continued MUISE, Albert John – 85, Quinan, Yarmouth Co., passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born June 8, 1923 in Quinan, he was a son of the late Willie and Genevieve (Jacquard) Muise. He worked as a woodsman and a labourer, having also worked with the Department of Highways for a number of years. Albert was also a hunting guide, and could tell many stories about his adventures in the woods. Surviving are sisters, Leona Doucette, Meteghan and Angelina Bourque, Montreal, as well as a special nephew, Ernie Muise, Quinan, who was raised more as a brother to Albert, along with many other nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Raymond, in infancy, Jarvais and Henry; sisters, Annie Vacon, Mary-May Muise, Lizzie Doucette, Frances Muise, Mammie Deveau, Eveline McSwane and Elise Muise. There will be no visitation by request. The funeral mass was held at 1 PM, Friday, July 11, from Saint Agnes Catholic Church, Quinan, Father John MacPherson officiated. July 6 to July 12, 2008 continued MOULAISON, John “Alfie” – 83, Green Street, Yarmouth, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born May 9, 1925 in Surette’s Island, Yarmouth Co., he was a son of the late Charles and Adele Moulaison. He was a welder by trade, and he was a veteran of the second World War, having served with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Surviving are his wife, Valerie (Robicheau); sons, Gregory (Patricia) Moulaison and Joseph Moulaison, Mahone Bay; daughters, Carol Anne (John) Paynter, Lower Sackville; Deborah (Lionel) Deveau, Yarmouth; Karen (William) MacCannell, Canoe Cove, PEI; stepchildren, Jill (Curtis) LeBlanc and Bruce (Darlene) Doucette; grandchildren, David Moulaison, Heather Moulaison, Jenna Paynter, John Paynter, Brendon Deveau, Bradley Deveau, Madeline MacCannell, Catherine MacCannell, William MacCannell, Nicole Moulaison; four step-grandsons; a brother, Fred (Betty) Moulaison, Sudbury, Ont.; sisters, Adele Robicheau, Yarmouth; Doris Cann, South Ohio. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Annette (Babin) Moulaison; sons, Thomas Moulaison and Peter Moulaison; a stepdaughter, Colleen Doane; brothers, Harvey Moulaison and Donald Moulaison; sisters, Amelia Devine, Alma Howes, Frances Muise, Mable Muise, Christine Wilson, Edith MacNeil. The funeral mass was held at 10 AM, Saturday, July 12, 2008 in Saint Ambrose Cathedral, Albert Street, Yarmouth, Father John MacPherson officiated. July 6 to July 12, 2008 continued PELLEY, Roy Jerome - 84, Windsor, Hants Co., passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2008, in Camp Hill Veterans’ Memorial Building, QEII, Halifax. Born July 2, 1924, in Sunnyville, Guysborough Co., he was a son of the late Thomas and Louise (Pelly) Pelley. Roy was a veteran of the Second World War and worked at the Windsor Jail for many years. He and his late wife Greta enjoyed going for drives in the car. Roy is survived by his sister, Evelyn Whan, Barrie Ont., and also nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 49 years, the former Greta Edna Coffill; his twin brother, Rob, also brother, Earnest and stepbrother, Robert Pelly. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). There was no visitation or funeral service by family request. A graveside service was held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12, in Maplewood Cemetery, King Street, Windsor. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory of Roy may be made to a charity of one’s choice. July 6 to July 12, 2008 continued Lawrence Keith “Buddy” Llewellyn – 69, of Aylesford, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Bridgewater on November 9, 1938, he was the son of the late Leroy and Jennie (McCarthy) Llewellyn. He was a labourer, working in the forestry industry. His hobbies included playing practical jokes, socializing and playing a good game of 45's. He enjoyed the outdoors. He will be missed by sisters, Yvonne (Edward) McLaughlin, Nanaimo BC.; Barbara Taylor, Aylesford; brothers, Clarence, Mill Village; David (Pauline), Berwick; Lester (Gail), Cambridge; Donald (Becky), Kentville and James, Calgary, Alberta; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Douglas and sisters, Audrey and Helen. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there was no visitation by family request. The family received friends and relatives at a reception held from 2-4 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Family flowers only, by request.
