Acadia Dance Collective Community looking to rebuild program, resources following fire
Having your home destroyed by fire is a heart wrenching experience and rebuilding can be a daunting task, whether you’re an individual or a dance community. The Acadia Dance Collective Community (ADCC) held a fundraiser at Wolfville’s Willow Park Sunday afternoon, as the group works toward rebuilding their program and finding new space following a fire on May 20 that destroyed a building in Grand Pre that housed everything they had.

Program coordinator Courtney Smith said they had fundraised for about $8,000 in dance-related resources, including costumes, that were lost in the blaze and their program is threatened because they lost everything.

There is a lack of dance programs in our community, especially ones that are affordable and accessible. She said the local business and arts communities have been very supportive and they had nine musical performers and bands donate their talents to the fundraiser.

There are plans to rebuild in a new location, including an arts centre. They need more people to get on board and to give input. They’re looking for space for September to resume regular weekly classes and they have a wish list of items they need to replace on their website, adccommunity.com. If you’d like more information or want to make a contribution, contact adccommunity@eastlink.ca.
