Port Geroge Country Jamboree set for July 26

The Port George Country Jamboree is back for another year with day-long entertainment, more food than you can imagine, and a flea market that normally boasts more than 200 tables.

On-site parking makes it easy to bring the family, and when July 26 rolls around, the fields surrounding the always-popular event are expected to be packed. The jamboree is organized by the community and the local Lions Clubs of the area, and entertainment on the big stage always draws a crowd of about 4,000, making it one of the top music events in the Annapolis Valley.

This year, Good Old Boys will kick off the jamboree at 9 a.m. with Master of Ceremonies Bob Lyle doing the introductions throughout the day. Old Country takes to the stage at 10 a.m. and Best of Intentions follows an hour later. Dave Burbine and Traditional Country fill the noon hour with Country Grass kicking off the afternoon at 1 p.m. Allan Butler performs at 2 p.m. and The Country Rhythm Tones play at 3 p.m. Matt Balsor is on stage at 4 p.m. and Spur of the Moment is on at 5 p.m. After supper, Re--Boot plays at 6 p.m. with Country Grass back for the 7 p.m. show.

Lyle is also entertainment chairman and overall chair of the jamboree. Besides doing his master of ceremonies duties, Lyle can sometimes be coaxed to bring out the guitar and perform himself.

While there is always more than enough entertainment for the adults, the Jamboree also has youngsters in mind with such things as the giant blowup bouncer tent where kids can jump to their hearts content, face painting, train ride, and the duck pond.

Port George is located on the Bay of Fundy side of the North Mountain north of Middleton in Annapolis County.

Gates open at 7 a.m. and admission is $4 for adults. Children under 12 get in free.

Ham, bean and potato scallop supper runs from 4 to 6 p.m. and costs $8.
