96 calls keep Annapolis RCMP hopping

The Annapolis detachment of the RCMP responded to 96 calls for assistance July 7 through July 14. Among these were five false 911s, six false alarms, 22 traffic matters and 21 domestic related complaints.

Following are highlights of these calls:

(Note: due to the sensitive nature of complaints involving sexual assault, domestic violence, children’s welfare and mental health, not all calls are considered appropriate for publication)

-- July 7 at 2:32 p.m. A Bridgetown resident contacted police after discovering that garage windows were smashed.

-- July 7 at 4:05 p.m. Police were called to Wilmot in response to a harassment complaint. Two parties were in a disagreement over payment of a cellphone bill. It was determined that the owner would be responsible for the bill.

-- July 7 at 9:03 p.m. An impaired driver complaint in Wilmot resulted in a police check to the suspect vehicle. The patrol determined that a canine passenger had inadvertently distracted the driver.

-- July 7 at 11:06 p.m. Police and EHS personnel were called to a traffic accident in Middleton after a vehicle left the road and struck a pole. The driver was located. The investigation continues and charges are possible.

-- July 8 at 00:50 a.m. Security at Soldiers Memorial Hospital reported a suspicious vehicle after a red pickup truck was seen circling the parking lot several times. A patrol was made, but the suspect vehicle had left the scene.

-- July 8 at 00:56 a.m. Police were called to a disturbance in Upper Clements. One intoxicated male was taken to cells in Digby, lodged overnight and released.

-- July 8 at 10:20 a.m. Police were called to Perot after a resident discovered a Kia Sportage had been stolen overnight. The vehicle was recovered and the investigation continues.

-- July 8 at 12:41 p.m. Police were called to a two-vehicle accident on Highway 101 near Exit 18. One driver is facing charges of failing to obey a stop sign. Both vehicles were damaged, but no injuries were reported.

-- July 8 at 1:42 p.m. Police were called to Grand Lake after a cottage owner discovered that a 15-foot green Coleman canoe had been stolen.

-- July 8 at 2:06 p.m. Police and members of the Annapolis Royal Fire Department were called to a vehicle fire on Highway 201 in Lequille. The fire was extinguished and the vehicle sustained minor damage.

-- July 8 at 3:23 p.m. Police received a report that a vehicle was in the ditch on Highway 101 near exit 18A. The matter remains under investigation.

-- July 8 6:50 p.m. A Middleton caller reported that a red ATV was riding on the road. A patrol was made but failed to locate suspect vehicle.

-- July 8 at 5:20 p.m. Police were called to Deep brook after a property owner discovered that a large quantity of metal was stolen. The matter remains under investigation.

-- July 9 at 9:19 a.m. A business owner in Wilmot contacted police after discovering that during the night, someone had tampered with letters and left an inappropriate ad on a billboard sign.

-- July 9 at 3:55 p.m. Highway 201 near Paradise. A vehicle owner contacted police after returning to the parking lot from a golf game and finding his vehicle had been damaged in a hit and run. The owner of the suspect vehicle is unknown at this time.

-- July 9 at 6:02 p.m. A report of an impaired driver in Bridgetown resulted in a number of patrols, but they failed to locate the suspect vehicle.

-- July 9 at 11:10 p.m. A report of a suspicious person on the Highway 101 near Bridgetown resulted in police assisting a stranded hitchhiker who missed his drive to Halifax.

-- July 10 at 9:14 p.m. The report of a possible impaired driver near Granville Ferry resulted in patrols made by RCMP and the Annapolis Royal Police. The suspect vehicle was not located.

-- July 11 at 8:19 p.m. A Lequille area business owner reported that someone had broken into the business during the night and stole money. Several vehicles were also entered. The matter remains under investigation.

-- July 11 at 9:59 a.m. A possible impaired driver was reported seen in Lequille. A patrol was made and located the suspect vehicle. The driver was brought to Bridgetown and blew under the legal limit on the breathalizer.

-- July 11 at 11:10 a.m. Police received foreign correspondence from a memorabilia collector wishing to acquire an RCMP police badge. The request was denied.

-- July 11 at 7:22 p.m. Hillsburn. The report of an erratic driver resulted in the driver being dealt with in the appropriate manner.

-- July 11 at 9:48 p.m. A caller reported a disturbance in Middleton. A patrol was made, but the offender was not located. No other problems were reported.

-- July 12 at 00:04 a.m. A noise compliant resulted in a patrol finding an individual playing loud music in Middleton.

-- July 12 at 1:01 a.m. A disturbance call in Granville Ferry resulted in the arrest of a 31 year-old male. The individual was lodged in cells overnight and later released. He is scheduled to appear in court in September.

-- July 12 at 4:08 a.m. Police were called to Meadowvale to deal with a domestic matter. One 32 year-old male was arrested and lodged in cells. He is scheduled to appear in court in September.

-- July 12 at 11:19 a.m. Police, EHS personnel, Bear River Fire Department and Nova Scotia Power technicians were called to Cornwallis after a delivery truck backed into a power line while trying to unload. The matter was resolved and driver and vehicle resumed the route.

-- July 12 at 2:43 p.m. A bicycle owner reported that a green mountain bike had been stolen from Tim Horton’s in Middleton.

-- July 12 at 9:13 p.m. A concerned citizen in Cornwallis contacted police after hearing music emanating from the former base. A patrol found that a band was playing during a closing ceremony at the sea cadet camp.

-- July 13 at 3:30 p.m. Police were called to Kejimkujik Park after a driver was reported to be speeding in the campground. The vehicle was also involved in a hit and run. The driver failed the breathalyzer and was lodged in cells and later released. He is scheduled to appear in court in September.
