Ban on open fires
On July 9 a ban on open fires in all areas of Nova Scotia went into effect.
Rob Uttaro, Department of Natural Resources fire management supervisor says, warm and dry weather has driven the fire weather index to high or extreme throughout most of Nova Scotia.
There are to be no open fires for any purpose in woods or within 305 metres of the woods in any part of the province.
Unless the province receives significant rain, the ban could stay in effect until mid-September.
