Hello, again. Is everyone enjoying the heat or are you enjoying your air conditioners?
I know these are the days that make me wish my car had an air conditioner in it. Oh, well, maybe someday.
The card party for July 8 had a pretty good turnout considering the heat. There were nine tables in attendance.
Ladies’ first went to Jean Spinney while Barb Davison won ladies’ second. The ladies’ low prize went to Madeline Hutchinson.
Dick Weir won the men’s first while Frank Spinney won the men’s second prize. Blake Spinney won the men’s low prize. Both low prizes were returned to be used for another week.
Cassie Green won the door prize and the 50/50 prize went to Ethel Pineo and Ethel wasn’t even there – she asked someone else to buy a ticket for her. Now isn’t that luck? Dick and Marie Weir donated the prizes for the evening and everyone had a great night.
Soccer is in full swing now with games and practices all over the province. A tournament for the Under-8s and Under-10s just ended on the weekend. It was a great success because everyone had fun.
If you ever want to know about when the next soccer tournament is coming up, go to the Soccer Nova Scotia website and they are listed there.
Don’t forget about the summer hockey league in August. I know there is one in Wolfville with the Acadia Axemen and one in Kentville. Dylan wants us to build a rink in our backyard now because he wants to play hockey so much.
Happy birthday to Paiyton Pick, who will celebrate her sixth birthday July 21. Birthday wishes also go out to Charlene Davies, who celebrated July 7; Margaret Long, July 9; Catherine How, July 10; Allison Weir, July16; Philip Pick, July 17; and Gladys Long, July 21. Happy birthday also goes out to Gregory Schofield, who will celebrate his fourth birthday July 15.
Congratulations to my niece and her spouse, who just welcomed their first baby into the world at 6:30 p.m. July 9. Camille Sanford and Sean Thibeau of Chester welcome a baby girl, five pounds, six-and-a-half ounces named Della Mae Lynn. Mom and baby are both doing well.
Don’t forget about the upcoming events at the Black River Community Hall, which include the Black River Community Club meeting July 20. There will also be a Creative Memories workshop at the White Rock Community Hall July 15 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Call Sandra Cudmore to register at 542-5518.
I’ll go for now. Have a great week. Stay healthy, happy and safe.
