STAMM, Gail R. - 62, of Port Mouton, Queens County, formerly of Halifax, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 29, 2008 at home in Port Mouton. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Geoffrey and Ruth (Cunningham) Dimock. Gail was a former secretary for the Halifax School Board for many years retiring in 2006. She was an avid painter and loved the beaches and sheep. She is survived by her husband Erwin; daughter Amy Potter of Ottawa and son Chris Potter of Toronto; sister Carol of la Fontaine, ON. Funeral service was held July 7, 2008 in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. Rev. Jennifer Garbin officiated. Burial will be in St. John’s Anglican Cemetery, Halifax at a later date. KEARNES, Muriel Carolyn, 65, of Bear River, died July 3, 2008, in Annapolis Community Health Centre, Annapolis Royal. Funeral July 8, in Bear River United Baptist Church.

Marion Viola Coolen – 76, of Halifax, formerly of Ross Corner, Kings County, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2008 in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax Infirmary Site, Halifax. Born in Ross Corner, she was a daughter of the late Harold and Jennie (MacDonald) Sanford. She had been employed with MT&T for 36 years, working as a keypunch operator and retiring as the supervisor of Revenue Forecasting for the Finance Department. She enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, playing bridge, bowling and crossword puzzles. She is survived by a son, Patrick “Pat” (Wendy), Ross Corner; a sister, Muriel “Dot” Berlemont, Ross Corner; five brothers, Keith (Della), Halifax; Clifford (Kay), Oromocto; Donald, Halls Harbour; Clayton (Myrtle) and Paul, both of Ross Corner; three grandchildren, Gerry, Michael and Gregory; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald; a sister, Pearl Faulkner; a brother, Dexter. Visitation was held from 3:30-5 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 6, 2008, Reverend Gerald Zinck officiated. MUISE, Arthur John – 69, Belleville, Nova Scotia, passed away with his family by his side on Thursday, July 3, at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. He was the son of the late Alvinie and Emilie (Lefave) Muise. Arthur was a TV repairman for 25 years, then owned Quinan Groceries. He also served as a Counselor in the Municipality of Argyle for 17 years. He was active on too many committees to mention, most recently Waste Check. He was a founder and President of the Argyle Minor Baseball Association, as well as a coach for 20 years. He was founder and President of the Quinan Youth Group, and very active in the S.A.R. Parish, and with Quinan Seniors. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Council 8988, and was a former Grand Knight. He was an active volunteer, but always had time for his family. He loved his grandchildren very much, and felt youth were extremely important. Arthur enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, cutting wood and spending time at his camp. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years Dora Anne (Jacquard); as well as daughters Karen (Paul) Hubbard, Patty (Hank) Merchant, Nicole (Harold) Albright, all of Belleville, and Connie Muise (fiancé Bill Sherman), Chebogue.; brothers Paul (Helena) Meuse, and Raymond (Evangeline) Muise, both in Ontario; and adored by grandchildren, Jeremy, Ryan, Jacob, Kaylie, Mackenzie, Isaac, Amber and Autumn. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Elie, Sylvain; sister Marie Blanchard. Visitation was in H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home in Yarmouth, July 3rd from 7-9 p.m. with prayers at 8 p.m. The funeral service was held on Saturday, July 5 at 2 p.m. in Saint Anne’s Catholic Church, Saint Anne du Ruisseau, Msgr. Martinelli, Mary “Viola” – 97, Villa St. Joseph du Lac, passed away peacefully the afternoon of June 29, 2008, with her two nieces, Mary and Shirley, by her side. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a daughter of the late Samuel and Alice Martinelli. She was predeceased by her long time companion, George H. Deveau (Harry); brothers, Melbourne, Douglas and Ralph; sister, Edith Mooring and Hilda “Tuddie” LeBlanc, as well as sister-in-law and best friend, Elizabeth Martinelli. She is survived by her three nieces, Vonnie Guarino, Shirley Allen and Mary G. Muise, that she helped raise, as well as John Deveau. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Aunt Vi was a special lady in every sense of the word. She had a tender heart for little children and animals, especially cats. She enjoyed making a home for her family and was a second mother to her three nieces. She enjoyed a good joke and was always smiling. Viola spent the last eight years at the Villa and enjoyed all the nurses and staff who gave her lots of love and support. The family would like to thank everyone at the Villa for making Viola’s last years happy. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth. Visiting hours took place in Sweeny’s Funeral Home chapel on Tuesday July 1 from 7-9 p.m., with prayers at 8 p.m. Funeral service was held Wednesday July 2 at 11 a.m. in St. Ambrose Cathedral, Father John MacPherson officiated. Winifred Gladys Doucet - 91, of Kentville, passed away peacefully Tuesday July 1, 2008 at Evergreen Nursing Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in Youngstown Alb., she was a daughter of the late Jervis and Edna [Lennox] Beamish. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends. Winifred is survived by daughters: Nancy [George] Henry, Kentville, Susan [Ken O'Hearn] Kelly, Coldbrook: sisters Mary Stoll, Alb., Kathleen Hains, Alb., 2 granddaughters, 3 grandsons, 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. LOOMER, Paul Howard - 71, Falmouth, Hants Co., passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2008, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in Falmouth, Hants Co., March 31, 1937, he was a son of the late Earle and Verna (Neaves). He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Betty Lou (Schurman); sons, Raymond, Ottawa; Glen, Falmouth; and Peter (Jessica), Locharber, Antigonish Co.; daughter, Nancy Loomer, Bible Hill; grandchildren, Mary Spear, Garrett Chase and Robynne Cox; brother, David (Ruby) Loomer, Kingston; sister, Bernice Loomer, Montreal; and a number of special nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by an infant son; brothers, Leslie and Kenneth, and much loved mother-in-law, Mary Schurman. He attended elementary school in Falmouth and graduated from Windsor Academy. He worked for 17 years in the family business, H. Loomer Greenhouses, Falmouth, followed by a career in Agricultural Employment Services, providing innovative support to the agricultural community in the Annapolis Valley and Western Nova Scotia for 22 years. He was active in the community in his early years, serving as a trustee of the Falmouth Community Hall and as a resource in activities involving the Boy Scouts. He was a keen naturalist, enjoying identifying birds, plants and various woodland fungi. He enjoyed tramping in the woodlands and fishing remote brooks and lakes. Recently, he could be seen Bass fishing on the Avon River in Summerville, Hants Co., where he spent many enjoyable hours catching fish and swapping stories. Arrangements were entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the family received visitors from 7-9 p.m. Friday, July 4 . Interment took place at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 5, in Center Falmouth Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. in Lohnes Funeral Service Chapel, Rev. Glennis Smith officiating. A reception followed the service in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. Family flowers only. Leta Geraldine Rankin - 61, East Uniacke, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 3, 2008, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in Waverley, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Marjorie (Smith) Ashe. Leta was an avid bingo player and she enjoyed traveling with her friends. She loved her grandchildren and spending time with them brought her great joy. She is survived by her loving husband, Joe, and her son, Jim (Dena) and their daughter Jessica; son, John (Tanya) and their sons Cody and Wyatt; sister, Sandra (Ken) Pelly, Waverley; brother, Francis (Violet) Ashe, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Darlene. Cremation has taken place, and no visitation by request.
