Valley Gardeners ramp up for anniversary show
The summer months fly past and in just a few weeks it will be time for the Valley Gardeners’ Club Annual Flower and Vegetable Show. The focus this year will be on the club’s 25th anniversary celebrations.

Since the show was started by Peter and Nancy Harvey, the number of entries and visitors has increased steadily every year despite some scary weather conditions.

It has always been an ‘open show’, which means anyone, including children, may exhibit flowers, arrangements, preserves and houseplants.

Visitors have been fascinated by the colourful collections of plant material and vegetables. They have gained many useful ideas for flower arranging and plants for their gardens.

Spectacular displays have evolved over the years and a members’ photo contest added. By popular request, there will be a sale of preserves, plants and interesting ‘white elephant’ gardening articles. There will be fun classes for children; scarecrows; lawn ornaments; and homemade troughs. Time to start planning and take up the challenge!

Relax in air-conditioned comfort in the Kentville Fire Hall Aug. 9, from 1-4 p.m. Partake of refreshments, contemplate the People’s Choice award and maybe win a door prize.

Valley Gardeners hope that this show will attract lots of entries and visitors to make it bigger and better, fun and informative, an event to be remembered for the club’s 25th year in the community.

Forms and information can be obtained from Pauline Jacobs at (902) 582-1324 or pbeaton81@hotmail.com.
