Celebrating the oldest house in Nova Scotia
DeGannes-Crosby turns 300
A provincial treasure is turning 300 this year and everyone is invited to the celebration.
On July 12, from 2 to 4 pm, the Historical Association of Annapolis Royal is throwing a garden party to celebrate the 300th birthday of Nova Scotia’s oldest house. Built in 1708 by a French officer, the DeGannes-Crosby house is the present day home of Jim and Pauline How, who have taken great lengths to restore the building to its former glory.
The public is welcome to attend the event at 477 St. George Street, Annapolis Royal, and see inside the house itself. To honour this occasion, there will be live music, light refreshments and performances from Musique 400.
The Lieutenant Governor, Mayann E. Francis, has also been invited to the celebration, as one of her predecessors once resided in the historic home. As part of the event, Brenda Dunn of Parks Canada will speak about the significance of the house throughout its history.
