A senior yogi and meditation master from India will be in residence at Birchdale Lake, formerly known as Nova Nada, from Aug. 2 to 17.
Yogendra Mishra (commonly known as “Yogiji”) is visiting Nova Scotia at the invitation of yoga instructor Kerry Lawson, who has organized daily classes for his stay that include his teachings.

Mishra holds a masters degree from Agra University in philosophy, as well as a physical education science degree from Amravati University. He is the owner of Tapovan Dham Yoga Center in Rishikesh where he resides when not teaching in Russia, Germany, Japan, Canada or the US.

Mishra has been a yoga teacher for 30 years and has taken part in several yoga research projects determining the association of yoga and well-being.

“He is a wealth of information and we are very lucky to have him for two weeks,” said Lawson.

Daily programming will consist of a multi-level ashtanga class led by Lawson, a beginner and experienced classical Hatha class led by Mishra, a class specifically for teachers led by Mishra and an evening discussion question and answer period. All classes will include asana, pranayama and meditation.

Lawson says Mishra is looking forward to visiting the rustic lodge and property.

“He feels it is a spiritual place. He is a very unusual person. A real Brahmin Guru in every sense of the word,” she said.
