June 22 to June 28, 2008 ALLEN, Alice Kathleen - 88, of Hunt’s Point, Queens County, formerly of Liverpool, passed away peacefully in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool on June 23, 2008. Born in Liverpool, she was the daughter of the late William and Maude (Westhaver) Peach. Alice loved to cook and bake, spend time with her grandchildren, go for drives. and enjoyed game shows on TV. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her daughters Linda Turpin of Liverpool and Rose Jollimore of Hunt’s Point; son Wayne (Sarah) of Liverpool; grandchildren: Amanda (Mitchell) Fancy, Blaine (Ginny) Allen, Wanda (Barry) Spinney, Norman (Kathy) Jollimore, Bo (Patricia) Jollimore, Julie (Dan) Cosh, Donna (Mark) Williams; great grandchildren: Justin Whalen, Jessica and Samantha Allen, Alyssa Fancy; step great granddaughters Katlin and Jenna Fralic, Marsha and Lisa Spinney, Tasha Dyson. She was predeceased by her husband Forman; sisters: Georgina, Elsie, Elva, Jean and Dora; brothers: Clayton, Forrest, Harry, Walter, William and Arthur and son-in-law Richard Turpin. Funeral service was held Thursday, June 26, 2008 in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. Pastor Richard Bristo officiated. Burial was in Zion United Cemetery, Payzant Street, Liverpool. June 22 to June 28, 2008 CROWELL, Melford V. - R.C.A.F. 1956-1982, passed away in Ottawa General Hospital on the morning of June 22, 2008, after a lengthy illness at the age of 73. He was predeceased by his parents, Elmer Crowell and Alice (Allen) Crowell, and his brother, Stanley. He is survived by his brother, Charles. Beloved uncle of Charles, Jacqueline, Darlene and David. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him, and who were touched by his sense of humour and kindness. Visitation and funeral service were held Wednesday, June 25, in Kelly Funeral Home, Ottawa, Ont. (613-731-1255). A service in memory of Melford was held in the chapel of Sweeny's Funeral Home, 567 Main St., Yarmouth, on Saturday, June 28, at 2 p.m. Interment followed in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Argyle. June 22 to June 28, 2008 THISTLE, Mary E.L. - 73, of Dartmouth, NS passed away peacefully, June 24, 2008 in VG site, QEII Health Science Centre, Halifax. Born in Liverpool, she was the daughter of the late John and Muriel (Griffith) Rogers. Mary was raised in Liverpool. She was a military wife and raised her family in Ontario, Germany and New Brunswick. Her primary interest was always her family. Her hobbies included knitting, reading and “helping her children”. In her later years, she resided in Fort McMurray, AB., Kars, NB., and finally Dartmouth, NS. She is survived by daughters: Marie (Stephen) Briggs, Carole (Kevin) Jewers, and Sharon Thistle, all of Fort McMurray, AB; son Ronald (Donna) of Dartmouth, NS; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren; sisters: Lucy Langille of New Annan, NS, Marlene Joudrey and Carole (Roy) VanWart, both of Kars, NB; brothers Roy and Eric, both of St. John, NB. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur “Ronald”; sister Edith; brothers: George, Harry, John, James, Maxwell and Patrick. Funeral service was held Saturday, June 28, 2008 from Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. Rev. Greg Denton officiated. Burial was in Zion United Cemetery, Payzant Street, Liverpool. June 22 to June 28, 2008 BENT, Joseph Malcolm “Mac”- 94 of East Arlington, Annapolis Co. NS, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2008 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Outram, he was a son of the late Joseph and Emma (Ring) Bent. Mac was a farmer all of his life. He enjoyed square dancing and attending jam sessions in later years. Mac was an avid hunter and fisherman and as a hobby he enjoyed making furniture. He is survived by daughters, Marion (Raymond) Scott, Beaconsfield; Emma (Barry) Bagley, Grand Manan, NB; Wilma (Laurie) Illsley, North Williamston; son, Joseph (Diane) Bent, East Arlington; step-daughters, Ruby Banks, Blockhouse, NS; Ruth (Bernie) Osborne, Stewiacke; step- son, Chester Marshall, Nanaimo, BC; 16 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Ethel Hudson; son Ivan, one grandson; sisters, Ethel Hardwick; Kate Greene and brother, Samuel Bent. Visitation was held Thursday, June 26, 2008 in the Middleton Funeral Home – 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448, where the funeral service was held Friday, June 27, 2008. Rev. Bob Billings officiated. Interment will be in Fundy View Cemetery, Port Lorne. Donations in memory may be to the Canadian Cancer Society or a Charity of Choice. June 22 to June 28, 2008 Audrey Loretta O’Brien, 79, passed away peacefully at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital on June 25, 2008. She was born on July 24, 1928 to the late Laura Beatrice (Forbes) of Argyle, Yarmouth Co. and the late George Shaffelburg of Bedford. She was the beloved wife of Dr. Milton O’Brien (Tusket, Yarmouth Co.) and devoted mother of Fern, Lynn (deceased), Kelly, Carmen and Tim; and proud grandmother of Corey (Mood), and Patrick, Riley, and Meggie (O’Brien) and mother-in-law to Terrance Mood, Susan O’Brien, and Chris Giannekos. She attended the Fine Arts program at Mount Allison University and was an artist and avid reader and had been active in fund raising for various charities in her earlier days including the Canadian Cancer Society, S.P.C.A., the Women’s Auxiliary at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital, Meals-on-Wheels, and various other charities. Funeral services were held at Sweeny’s Funeral Home in Yarmouth on Saturday June 28th at 10 a.m, Rev. A.D. “Bill” Newell officiated. Interment to follow at a later date in St. Michael’s parish cemetery, Wedgeport. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada and the Yarmouth branch of the S.P.C.A. June 22 to June 28, 2008 ACKER, Russell David “Russ”- 70, of Middleton, Our loving devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather passed away in the arms of his loving wife, Wednesday, June 25, 2008 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton after being diagnosed with cancer. Born in Springfield, he was a son of the late Ralph and Violet (Bezanson) Acker.He was a licensed mechanic and worked for Thompson’s Transfer. Russell was known for his spry personality and humour. He lived to love and laugh with his family, and most of all his great grandchildren. He loved fishing and had a great passion to help others and advice for all who would listen. He was very appreciated by those who knew him from the Multi Addiction Centre, North Kingston where he volunteered his knowledge and time for those living “one day at a time”. He is survived by his loving wife the former Barbara Freeman; four wonderful children, David Acker (Dominic Caldwell), Middleton; Sandra (Harold) White, Nictaux; Mike Acker (Bonnie McCullough), Nictaux; Cindy (Alan) Burns, South Farmington; grandchildren, Bradley (Melissa) White; Amanda White; George Burns and Raymond Burns; great grandchildren; Cameron and Morgan White; Brady White; sisters; Ruth Veinotte, Bridgetown; Joyce Beals, Paradise; Donny Penny, Porter’s Lake and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his youngest son, Roger Acker; sisters, Jean Deyotte, Shirley Bezanson and step-father, Roger Young. Visitation was held June 29, 2008 in the Middleton Funeral Home, where the funeral service was held June 30, 2008. Rev. Leon Langille officiated. Interment will be in the North Kingston Cemetery. Reception followed the interment at the Multi Addiction Centre, Kingston. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in memory may be made to the Acker Family or a Charity of Choice.
