June 15 to June 21, 2008 continued RHYNO, William R. “Bill” - 74 of Nictaux, formerly of Milton Queens County passed away on the morning of Wednesday June 18, 2008 of a broken heart after laying his wife Sheila of 53 years to rest just eight days before. Born in Milton he was the son of the late Mr. William and Blanche (Schrader) Rhyno. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed. Bill was a mechanic for Earl Illsley’s Texaco in Liverpool for many years. Bill had many talents from building his own home, woodworking, his hobby farm which he dearly loved. He was a hard worker and had worked from the age of 12. He loved to cut his own wood and haul it out either by horse or oxen. He won many prizes for his championship poultry. He is survived by his only son Allan (Sheila) Fall River; grandchildren David, Chi and Daniel and six great-grandsons; sister Dorothy Taylor, Liverpool; brother Gordon (Judy), Greenfield. He was predeceased by his wife Sheila; sisters: Ruth, Marjorie, Gertrude, Alice and brothers: Robert, Percy, Vernon, George, Roland, William, Joseph and Lorne. Funeral service was held Monday, June 23, 2008 from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Liverpool. President Douglas Thompson officiated, assisted by President Danny Muise. Burial was in Milton Community Cemetery. Donations in Bill’s memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Fund or The Canadian Diabetes Association. June 15 to June 21, 2008 continued PARSONS, John Buckler "Buck" - Lake Annis, passed away peacefully in Yarmouth Regional Hospital on June 19, 2008. He was born in 1933 in Baltimore, Md. He attended Calvert School, Kent School and Gilman High School. He graduated from Harvard University in 1955. His professional career spanned four decades of computer development as he worked for IBM, ITT, Honeywell, Unysis and other computer companies. He was an avid and expert golfer and after retiring, obtained his Master Teaching Certificate from the Professional Golf Teachers of America. He taught golf both in Canada and the U.S. Other sports he loved were skiing, fishing, bird hunting, flying small planes and skeet and trap shooting. As a boy he was a camper at Camp Mooswa in Lake Annis and became very attached to the area. He is survived by his wife, the former Gwen Hewey; sister, Marion (Ralph) DeGroff, Baltimore; children, Gregory (Jill), Rock Hill, S.C.; Traci (Dale) Myers, Brownsville, Mich.; Stuart (Diana), Pickering, Ont.; Sharon (Jon) Wierschke, Mill Creek, Wash.; stepchildren, Alex (Janice) Sweeny, Toronto, Ont.; Colin (Brenda) Sweeny, Kitchener, Ont.; Gail Sweeny (Peter Tesar) Edmonton, Alta.; Andrew Sweeny, Cambridge, Ont.; Niall (Cindy) Sweeny, Berkeley, Calif.; 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. There was no visitation or funeral at his request. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Lake Annis at a later date. June 15 to June 21, 2008 continued PROUTY, Theda Ilene - 88, Pubnico, passed away June 19, 2008, in Tidal View Manor. Born in Argyle Sound, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Effie Nickerson. Theda was a homemaker all her life, a faithful member of the Argyle-Pubnico Baptist Church, and a wonderful mother and grandmother. She loved to play bingo. Surviving are her daughter, Sandra (Vinton) Crawford, Alabama; son, Phillip Prouty, Pubnico; grandchildren, Craig Prouty, Pubnico; Phillip Prouty Jr., Pubnico; Monique Boulianne, Thunder Bay, Ont., and three great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by husband, George; granddaughter, Terra Lee; four sisters and one brother. Visitation was held Friday, June 20 from 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth, where funeral took place Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel, Rev. Raymond Pitcher officiated. June 15 to June 21, 2008 continued RYERSON, Gordon Arden - 1939-2008, Brenton, Yarmouth Co., passed away in Yarmouth Regional Hospital at the age of 68 years, following a courageous battle with cancer. Gordie was born in Berwick on June 29, 1939. He was a son of the late Gordon and Margerite (Bent) Ryerson. He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly (Pennell) Ryerson, and his daughters, Judy (John) Rozee, Tinkham Road; Lysa Ryerson, Mississauga, Ont.; Shaunda (Tobias) Sabean, Short Beach, and Stacey (Shawn) Cook, Brenton. Gordie will also be missed by his brothers, Elmer (Barbara), Yarmouth; Gerald (Valerie), Halifax; Max (Patricia), Melvern Square, and Arthur (Gail), Texas; as well as sisters, Joan (Merlyn) Toole, Wilmot; Sheila, Lawrencetown, and his grandchildren, Jessica Rozee, Ashley and Colton Cook, and Dylan Sabean. He was predeceased by his son, Wilson, and granddaughter, Jennifer Rozee. Gordie was a well-known carpenter throughout the province of Nova Scotia, and a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, and will be dearly missed. Visitation was held in Sweeny's Funeral Home Friday, June 20 from 7-9 p.m. The funeral took place in New Life Church on Saturday, June 21, at 2 p.m., Pastor Larry Pennell officiated. Born on August 20, 1910, in Kemptville, Yarmouth, Co., he was a son of the late Melford Hurlbert and Elizabeth (Bain) Hurlbert. He is survived by sons, Robert, Oshawa, Ont.; Gerald, Oshawa, Ont.; Frederick (Anna), Parry Sound, Ont.; Dennis (Donna), Halifax; daughters, Betty Gavel (Harold), Hebron; Gladys Crowell (Arthur), Kemptville, Yarmouth Co.; Mary McPhee (Pat Patterson), Oshawa, Ont.; Judy Crowell (Lewis), Whitby, Ont.; Virginia Reid (Larry), Huntsville, Ont.; 19 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren, and brother, Chadburn Hurlbert (Francis). Winston was predeceased by wife, Amy Elizabeth Hurlburt (Roberts); brother, Carl Hurlbert, and sister, Maude Cann. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He worked for the Department of Lands and Forests for many years and was a carpenter until he retired. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth. There were no visiting hours. A graveside service conducted by Rev. Rick Warner took place Monday, June 23, at 11 a.m. in Hatfield Memorial Cemetery, Kemptville. June 15 to June 21, 2008 continued POLICHA, Stefania – 101, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2008. She was a resident of Special Care Villa St. Joseph-du-Lac, Dayton. Prior to that she resided in a number of senior citizens homes. In 1997 she sold her home in North Battleford, Sask., to reside with her son Matthew and his wife Ellen. She was born in Galicia, Ukraine, and migrated to Canada with her parents as a young child. She worked as a caregiver to many children. Surviving are a daughter, Mary McFarland, Cardston, Alta. and a son, Matthew (Ellen) Policha, Yarmouth, as well as by grandchildren, Ken (Jane) Policha, Russell Policha, both of North Battleford, Alta.; Deirdre (Patrick) Ruark, Oregon and Blair (Sonya) McFarland, Maryland, and five great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Constantine Policha, as well as sons, Theodore, Edward and Michael. There was no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at the Yarmouth Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.

June 15 to June 21, 2008 continued CALDWELL, Edmond William Sr. “Ed” - 59, Three Mile Plains, Hants Co., surrounded by his loving family, died peacefully at home Saturday, June 21, 2008. He fought a courageous battle with cancer. Born March 16, 1949, in Windsor, he was a son of Frank and the late Beatrice (Wile) Caldwell. He worked for five years at Minto Construction in Ottawa, returning home he worked for 30 years at Fundy Gypsum Co. driving the loco, enjoying every day. Ed married his love of 37 years, Sharon Marie Clark. He was a great husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his caring wife, Sharon (Clark); son, Eddie (Deanna), Three Mile Plains; and daughter, Lisa (Alex Sabean), Falmouth; he was “Puppy” to the loves of his life, his grandchildren, Austin and Hannah Sabean; also surviving are brother, Eugene (Irene) Caldwell, Lockhartville; sisters, Gail (Chris), Patthis, Niagra Falls; Wanda (Brian) Lavers, Windsor; Nancy (David) Riley, Three Mile Plains; Carlotta (Bill) Leighton, Ottawa; also his best friend, Bill (Heather) Caldwell, who were there through it all. Besides his mother, he was predeceased by sister, Dianne (Ottawa). Arrangements have been entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the family received visitors from 6-9 p.m. Monday, June 23. Funeral service was held 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, in Lohnes Funeral Service Chapel, Rev. Bill Gibson officiated. Private family interment took place in Ste. Croix Cemetery, St. Croix. June 15 to June 21, 2008 continued WHYNOT, Gerald David – It is with great sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Gerald on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at the Perley-Rideau Veterans Health Centre, Ottawa, ON. Beloved husband of June; loving father of Charlotte (Cal), David (Joan) and Susan; cherished grandfather of Alexander (Ruth), Jennifer and Michael. Also loved and sadly missed by great grandchildren Kendra, Melisa and Seth. Survived by siblings Maurice and Muriel (Frank). Predeceased by siblings Clarence, Raymond, Victor, Herman, Lily, Bell and Kathleen. Born in Milton, NS in 1925, moved to Perth, ON in 1967, Gerald was a WWII Veteran, serving with the 21ST Canadian Field Ambulance R.C.A.M.C., business owner, volunteer policeman, little league coach and so much more. His kind and caring ways and terrific sense of humour brought a smile to everyone’s face. The family would like to recognize and thank the nurses and attendants at the Rideau 1 North Unit of the Perley who made his short stay so comfortable. Funeral services and internment will be held in Liverpool, NS (date to be determined). Born in Upper Woods Harbour, she was a daughter of the late Crowell and Alice (Jeffrey) Malone. She was a member of the Woods Harbour Wesleyan Church. She retired from the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass. She enjoyed nature. She is survived by son, Austin (Claire), Woods Harbour; daughter, Annis (Wendell) MacNeill, Mass., USA; eight grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert; a set of twins; brothers, Emerson, Lester, Willis, Loran, Burnley, Gerald, Herbert; sisters, Helena, Audrey, Shirley. The funeral service was held on Friday, June 20, 2008 in the Wesleyan Church, Woods Harbour, Rev. Steven Bean officiating. Burial was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Woods Harbour. June 15 to June 21, 2008 continued DAGLEY, Gerald (Gerry) K. of Moncton passed away Saturday, June 21, 2008 at his residence, the day before his 72nd birthday. Born in Milton, Queens County, NS he was the son of the late Richard and Harmia (Ayling) Dagley. A former employee of Auto Haul Away in Moncton, a director with the NB Brain Injury Association, he was very active in the local chapter. Gerry was a very good friend of Bill W’S for the past 48 years love and service has been his life’s passion. He touched the lives of many people through the different organizations he was associated with. He will be sadly missed by his sister Marion Conley (Charles) of Riverview, two brothers, David of Dartmouth and George (Donna) of Milton, NS. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife Doris (Johnson). The funeral service took place on Wednesday June 25, 2008 from Cobb’s Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Frank Trail officiating. Interment will be in Milton Community Cemetery, Saturday, August 23, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Fred Carr officiating.
