Hants County artist hosts first solo exhibition
Hants County artist Susan Sweet is having her first solo show of paintings during July in Truro. The show, “Broken Horses, Spotted Cattle,” features 50 paintings -- with horses and cattle being the prominent subject matter.
Sweet grew up on a small farm in Martock, and was inspired to draw and paint the animals that surrounded her.
The artist attended the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and continues to paint the animals that fascinated her as a child.
Many of the paintings in “Broken Horses, Spotted Cattle” are based on hours of research and photographs from local farms, the Hants County Exhibition, and Windsor horse shows.
Sweet has participated in Windsor’s Festival of Art and the Great Little Art Show, and has exhibited work at the Hants Community Hospital. Susan has work on exhibit in the Nova Scotia Art Bank, at Gallery 215, and, in April, was part of Demonstration Tuesday at the Windsor Library.
Susan currently resides in Maitland, Hants County.
“Broken Horses, Spotted Cattle” is sponsored by the Truro Art Society and opened July 2 at the Nova Scotia Community College’s McCarthy Hall Gallery at 36 Arthur Street in Truro. It will run Monday to Friday until July 31.
