The Greenwood village commission is concerned vacant commercial buildings in the business district are a deterrent to attracting new business to the area.

At their June 18 meeting, commissioners agreed the time has come to clean up the busy intersection where Central Avenue turns south towards the Greenwood Mall.

“That sight-for-sore-eyes corner is not helping business development one bit,” said commissioner Al Belliveau. The north corner of the intersection is the site of a long-vacant gas station and the former Greenwood Canadian Tire, which relocated further west along Central Avenue two years ago.

Belliveau reported the rundown-looking corner has turned off potential business investors who have recently been scouting for locations in the area. He added 14 Wing Greenwood would also like to see the corner tidied up.

“It creates a poor first impression of our business district or as an entrance to the base,” pointed out Belliveau, who urged the commission to contact property owners to find out what, if any, plans there are for those two properties.

“If they have some imminent plans, then let’s hear about them. If not, then something needs to be done to make that corner more presentable.”

The former ESSO station is owned by Kingston-based Parsons Investments and Canadian Tire Corporation still owns the former store property.

Not my usual habit to correct ppl, however, I think the author of this article must mean to say "eye sore" as "a sight for sore eyes" is actually a GOOD thing
