PEMBERTON, Gordon "Gordie" Francis, age 63 - It was with great sorrow that the family announced that Gordie passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at his home in Ellershouse, surrounded by his loving family. Gordie was born September 3, 1944, in Windsor, Hants County, Nova Scotia, and was the son of the late Leo and Amy (Harvey) Pemberton. Gord was a fighter who fought till the end. He was employed with Mackenzie's Creamery and then later worked as an independent distributor for Farmer's Dairy for over 25 years. Gordie enjoyed gardening (you name it, he could grow it), and woodworking. You could always watch his day brighten when his children, grandchildren and great-grandson came home. His family brightened his days, but the one who put the twinkle in his eye was his wonderful and devoted wife, Joan. He will be remaining forever in his memory are his loving wife, the former Joan Ida Davis, who never left his side through thick and thin; his children, Kimberley (Mike) Maynard, McKay Section; Yvonne (Randy) Stevens, Wellington; Christopher (Charmaine) Pemberton, Brooklyn; his five grandchildren, Alicia and Tyler Maynard; Kyle and Dylan Stevens; Gracie Pemberton; a great-grandson, Kohen Maynard; he is also survived by his brothers, Ernie (Jean) Pemberton, Ardoise; Ervin Pemberton, Windsor; sisters, Olive Brown, Garland's Crossing; Stella Redden, Newport Corner; Carolyn (Gary) Northup, Stanley; Gordie was predeceased by a sister, Jessie Pemberton; as well as several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. DULONG, Kenneth Joseph – 64, Hibernia Street, Yarmouth, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born April 8, 1944 in Bellneck, Yarmouth Co., he was a son of Estelle (Blanchard) Dulong, Yarmouth, and the late Bernard J. Dulong. Ken left Yarmouth at the age of 17, moving to Toronto where he worked for Energizer Battery, until his recent retirement, at which time he moved back to Yarmouth. He loved sports, especially hockey, having been a minor hockey coach, bringing his teams to many victories. He was a devoted Montreal Canadiens fan. The fondest times in Ken’s life were those times he spent with his loving children, Brian and Kimberly, both of Toronto. Also surviving are his mother, Estelle; his wife, Maureen (Sage) Dulong, Cambridge, Ont.; brothers, Roy (Juanita) Dulong, B.C., and Eugene (Marion) Dulong, Yarmouth; sisters, Florine (Charles) Williams, Yarmouth; Carol Newel (Danny McDonald), Melbourne; Debbie (George “Skip”) Hershey, Chegoggin. LeBLANC, Désiré Joseph -92, Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully in Yarmouth Regional Hospital on June 12, 2008. Born in Abram’s River on October 15, 1915, he was a son of the late Melbourne and Eva (Comeau) LeBlanc. He worked in the construction industry for 47 years in the Maritimes and in the United States. He was proud of his carpentry skills and was a mentor to many young up-and-coming carpenters, especially to his grandson Dicky. He was instrumental in saving the foundation of Ritchie Memorial Chapel in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery, having restored this building and preserved its existence. In his retirement, he refurbished the Abram’s River schoolhouse and had it listed as a heritage property. He also worked to rebuild the Abram’s River wharf. He was a member of St. Anne’s Parish, Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau, and he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Msgr. Albert Leménager Council 8988, and a member of the S.A.R. New Horizons Seniors’ Club. He especially enjoyed music, cooking, gardening and hunting, and his special little dog, Mindy. He is survived by his loving wife, Antoinette (Doucette), and his children, Eleanor (Emile) Audet, Québec; Viola (Art) Parsons, Dartmouth; Annette (Clifford) LeBlanc, Wedgeport; Désiré Jr. (Rose Marie) LeBlanc, Meteghan River; Robert (Suzanne) LeBlanc, Oklahoma; Douglas (Becky) LeBlanc, Ontario; Sharon (Michael) Clair, Windsor Junction; Debbie LeBlanc, Calgary. He is survived by step-children, Carol Stevenson, Dartmouth; Linda (Roy) Randall, Belleville; Gary and Larry Ferguson, Calgary; Judy Ferguson, and friend, John, Lower Sackville. He is survived by a brother, Jerry (Frances), Toronto; a half-brother, Jules Doucette, Wedgeport; sisters, Bernadette (Aurèle) Bélanger, Sherbrooke; Edith Silk, Toronto. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; 2 step-great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Addie Amirault; daughter, Betty Murphy; his second wife, Frances Stevenson; an infant son; brothers, Archie, Ben, Arthur; a sister, Florence. AKER, Walter Clarence “Mutt” - 73, Windsor, Hants Co., passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family Thursday, June 12, 2008, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born June 13, 1934 in Windsor, he was the son of the late Robert and Violet (Matheson) Aker. Mutt will be deeply missed by his daughter, Kim; grandchildren, Tyler, Evan and Jessica and their parents, Tracey and Ian; brother, Robert (Madeleine); sisters, Ruby; Minnie (Calvin); Juanita; brothers-in-law, Donald Grant and Donald Maher Sr.; many nieces, nephews, countless friends, particularly Dave and Suzette. He will also be missed by cherished pets, Buddy and Simon. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Jacqueline; son, Kevin; several brothers and sisters. Mutt had a long career as a Flight Engineer with the Canadian Armed Forces and Nationair. He was an accomplished hockey player with the RCAF Flyers in Europe, a volunteer with and an honorary member of the Windsor Hockey Heritage Society, and a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Hants Co. Branch No. 009, Windsor. He also enjoyed the final years of his retirement at his home on Little Island Lake. SWEENEY, Mary Patricia – 74, Samms Court, Hebron, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2008 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born April 16, 1934 in Yarmouth, she was a daughter of Cassie (Nickerson) Robicheau, Yarmouth, and the late Wilfred Robicheau. She worked as a caregiver at Sunset Terrace for a number of years, and she also served with the RCAF for a short time. She was a member of the Yarmouth Regional Hospital Women’s Auxiliary, and she loved line dancing with Senior’s Kickin’ Country, and she also enjoyed walking, crossword puzzles and reading. Besides her mother, she is survived by children, April (Laurie) Thomas, Yarmouth; Judy Turner, Halifax; Michael Sweeney, Vancouver; Kirk Sweeney, Hebron. grandchildren, Callie (Wilfred) Deveau, Moncton; Kendal Thomas (Jamie), Halifax; Jade Turner, Halifax; a great grandson, Cale Deveau; a sister, Valerie (Alfie) Moulaison, Yarmouth. ALLEN, Warrant Officer Shenton "Kent", C.D. (retired) - 80, died June 12, 2008, at home. Born January 22, 1928, he was a son of the late Shenton B. and Kathryn Alva (Ryder) Allen. He is survived by his wife, Lois (Bain) Kathryn Allen; daughters, Deborah Allen, Kathryn Allen, Holly Joy Allen-Lennox; son, Shenton Bradford Allen (June); his grandchildren, Jesse Tyler Foy, Joshua Allen Foy, Jamie Lee Allan, Christa Marie Swaine, Ryan Thomas Swaine, Kiera Natasha Lennox. Kent served with the Royal Canadian Regiment (1951-1979), a veteran of the Korean War (1951-1953). He enjoyed working with his hands and sharing time with his family at camp. Rev. Dr. Harry "Oliver" Ohsberg - 82 of Wolfville, died peacefully, Thursday June 12, 2008 at the QE II, HSC Halifax. Although he accomplished much academically and professionally, Oliver’s greatest joys were serving the Lord he loved, and loving his family - his cherished wife of 56 years, Wilma; beloved son, Robert and wife Nancy and grandchildren: Karissa, Ian and Victoria whom he loved well and dearly. He was also devoted to his many students. He was predeceased by two brothers, Charles & George. He was born and educated in Mckeesport, Pennsylvania. Upon graduation from high school, he earned a B.A. from Westminster College. Continuing his schooling he obtained a B.D. from Bethel Theological Seminary. He served as instructor at the Christian Training Institute, Edmonton and Youth Director of the Alberta Baptist Conference. From 1954 - 62, he pastored Edmonton’s Bonnie Doon Baptist and Winnipeg’s Bethel Baptist Churches. During the summers he completed an M.A. at Seattle Pacific College. Pursuing his desire to teach again, Oliver obtained a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1964. During this time he was also a Research Associate and then Assistant Director of the University’s Cleft Palate Centre, as well as being Assistant Professor in the School of Dental Medicine. Oliver served as interim pastor of the West Mifflin Baptist Church, then First Congregational Church and pastored his home church of Riverview Baptist. In 1972 he accepted the invitation to be Assistant Professor, Practical Theology, at Acadia Divinity College. He was to become full professor of Christian Education in 1984, serving also as Associate Dean of ADC. He retired in 1991 but was invited to teach for several years following. He had the marvelous experience of serving as teaching Pastor on an interim basis at New Minas Baptist Church 2002 -03. He has been recognized by the Religious Education Association, the National Association of Professors of Christian Education, the Association of Professors and Researchers in Religious Education and is listed in leaders in American Science, 8th edition. He is the author of two books, as well as many articles in various publications. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Annapolis Valley Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook. There was no visitation by family request. A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 17th in the New Minas Baptist Church. Rev. Dr. Robert Knowles officiating, reception followed. Interment will take place at a later date. DEMINGS, Edward Alexander, 90, Sable River, formerly of Shelburne, passed away at home on Friday, June 13, 2008. Born in Shelburne, he was a son of the late Samuel and Jennie (Bent) Demings. Ed grew up in Shelburne and had his first head of cattle at the age of nine. Ed was in the World War from 1939-1945. He later left Shelburne and went to Marathon, Ontario and proceeded to send for his sweetheart, Verta Jacklin, to join him. He was mate on tugboats in Ontario. Ed worked in the lumber mills and logging camps in Marathon until his retirement. He and Verta moved back to Sable River where they bought a small farm and raised cattle and enjoyed gardening. He especially enjoyed the ox hauls at all the country exhibitions. Ed loved hunting and fishing. He and Verta loved to travel and throughout the years did a lot of camping. Ed is survived by his best friends and companions, Roger and Debbie Latham, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased, in April of this year, by the love of his life, Verta (Jacklin) Demings. The funeral service was held on Sunday, June 15 in H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Chapel with Father Pat O’Meara officiating. Interment was in St. Thomas Roman Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or N.S. WOLFE, Lizzie Mae, 92, Surf Lodge Nursing Home, Lockeport, formerly of Shelburne, passed away in Surf Lodge Nursing Home Friday, June 13, 2008. Born in Lockeport, she was a daughter of the late James and Geneva (Townsend) Young. Lizzie was employed as a seamstress at the Shelburne Clothing Store and was a telephone operator for many years, until her retirement. She was very artistic and enjoyed painting. She also gave painting lessons to senior citizens. She was an avid traveler. Lizzie was a member of the Baptist Church. She is survived by daughter, Kay (Michael) Korb, Newport News, Va; sister, Hazel Decker, East Jordan; grandsons, Michael (Cindy) Korb the Third, Urbandale, Iowa; David ( Betsy) Korb, Colonial Heights, Va; great grandchildren, Samuel Korb and Alex Korb, Colonial Heights, Va. BOWER, Randy Robert, 48, Upper Ohio, passed away suddenly on Friday, June 13, 2008 following an accident while working in the woods. Born November 19, 1959, he was a son of the late Chester and Ruth E (Harris) Bower. Randy loved life, his family, friends, and his special friend, his dog, Bear. Randy was always there when someone needed him, no matter how big or small. He enjoyed playing ball, biking, and his Sunday afternoon Gun Club. He enjoyed playing with his nieces and all the kids around the neighbourhood. He had a nickname for them all. Randy had a special Uncle Bill, whom he went to see every weekend back at his camp. Randy worked in the woods all his working life. He worked in Northern Ontario, Long Lake Lumber Company and finished out his working life at Blaine Fehr’s Logging. Randy is survived by brothers, Spencer; Kerry (Janice) Bower, Caramat, Ont.; Chris, Upper Ohio; sisters, Yvonne Hemeon (Angus); Marsha (Wade), Upper Ohio; niece, Elizabeth; three great-nieces, Mekayla, Karlee and Kiara; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
