Learn what makes a poem powerful

Carole Langille has taught poetry workshops in India, Prague, Greece, Mahone Bay and will bring a workshop called “Where Prose and Poetry Meet,” to Liverpool on July 13.

“I look forward to these workshops because the participants, as well as myself, always leave feeling moved and more open,” she said.

Langille currently has three books of poetry published along with two children’s books.

A forth book will come out in the fall, which is a collection of short stories.

Nominated for the Governor General’s Award and the Atlantic Poetry Prize, Langille took home the “Our Choice” award by the Canadian Children’s Book Centre.

The workshop is open to new and experience writers and anyone interested in writing, continued Langille.

She loves working with people who care about writing, quoting Proust as saying, “there are no certainties, even grammatical ones… only that which bears the imprint of our choice, our taste, our uncertainty, our desire and our weakness can be beautiful.”

The one-day workshop will take place at the Queens County Museum on July 13.

Langille will discuss what makes a poem powerful along with editing, language and poetic techniques.

Those interested must register no later than June 28.
