Street Punishment will not perform on waterfront
Custom Design Cycles owner Tony Roy is “between a rock and a hard place,” as a venue for the advertised Street Punishment show is up in the air.

Roy went before the Region of Queens Municipal Council on June 16.

The idea of bringing Street Punishment’s motorcycle stunt show to town for Privateer Days was brought to council in January.

“I went on the whim that I got from council that this was going to be a go and collected all the sponsor money,” Roy told council. “Now I’m kind of stuck.”

Due to insurance issues, Street Punishment cannot perform along the Waterfront.

Another option is to hold the show at the Greenfield Dragway located at the South Shore Regional Airport.

“We’ve been working very closely with Tony as he indicated and particularly through Brian Baker,” Economic Development Director for the region, said Mayor John Leefe, “to get the information we need to take to our insurance to satisfy our insurer that we’re not exposing the rate payers of Queens to the potential of a significant suit.”

Roy told council he has 30 sponsors lined up for this event.

“It’s been a long go and it just seems like every bridge I cam to that I crossed, another one was built,” he stated.

At deadline, the Region of Queens was still waiting for a response from the Drag Racers Association with respect to whether their insurance policy includes or exempts airports, explained the mayor.

If the policy includes airports, “we’re away to the races,” he added.
