Digby Pines promoting environmental excellence
Digby Pines Golf Resort and Spa has officially earned “green” status. The resort is one of six Nova Scotia businesses recognized for implementing environmental principals into its business practices.
The resort was recognized during the Environmental Excellence in Business breakfast held earlier this month at the Westin Nova Scotian.
“Being so closely situated to a natural phenomenon (such as the Bay of Fundy) reminds us even more of how precious it is. We want to provide our guests with the best service and an enjoyable vacation while encouraging environmentally friendly practices,” said Pines general manager Rene LeBlanc. “We are very pleased to have been recognized for our commitment to the environment.”
The resort’s support for the environment includes initiatives such as composting, installing energy efficient lighting, installing low-flow showerheads in the main resort building and low-flush toilets in renovated areas, a 30 per cent reduction in pool chemicals through careful monitoring of the system.
The ‘Digby Pines Green Team’ also participates in regular beach cleanups, and last submitted a float in the Scallop Days parade to raise awareness of global warming.
The resort is owned by the province, but managed by New Castle Hotels and Resorts.
