Central Kings took its atheletics awards presentation to a new audience this year: the entire student body.
“Our school awards have two goals: they’re an incentive to participate in school life, and they recognize that participation,” said C.K. prime minister Zack Miller .
Medals for participation over high school years were presented at bronze, silver and gold levels; along with band and athletics awards.
On the sports fields and courts, Central Kings had a solid year, capped most recently with its second-year-in-a-row Division II provincial track and field banner. C.K.’s Marissa Walter won double gold on the track, while Dustin Poirier won the provincial javelin event, adding enough to the points to beat Amherst by just four points for the second time.
There were provincial silver medals for the senior girls’ soccer team, the senior boys’ volleyball team and the senior boys’ basketball team. The senior boys’ soccer team won provincial bronze and, in its first year of competition, the school’s boys’ snowboarding team reached provincial competition.
“That succes speaks to the talents of our students, teachers and volunteer coaches,” said principal Steve Pearl.
