Events planned Sunday in conjunction with the Ride The Lobster Unicycle Race

Yarmouth County is going to ‘wheely’ be an interesting spot over a 24-hour period.

The Ride The Lobster Unicycle Race, which has attracted unicycle teams from around the world, kicks off in Yarmouth Monday morning. But before this happens, people will get a chance to experience the fun associated with the race with activities planned on Sunday.

At 1 p.m. a lobster boil is being held at the Dennis Point Wharf in Lower West Pubnico. (The cost for the a boiled lobster, salad and roll, and tea or coffee is $10.) While this is going on, there will be a demonstration area where unicycle teams will perform for the public. The backdrop to all of this will be Acadian music and dance.

At 3:30 p.m., a photo shoot is planned at the Cape Forchu Lighthouse and at 4:45 p.m., an event will take place on Yarmouth’s waterfront.

All of this, of course, is leading up to Monday’s start of the five-day race, in which teams will unicycle the 800 kilometres from Yarmouth to Cape Breton. At 8 a.m. on Monday morning, June 16, the participants will gather at the Boston Pizza parking lot. With an RCMP escort, they’ll make their way to Haley Road, down Forest Street to Main, and north along Main Street to the RCMP detachment at Lake Milo, which is where the start line to the race will be.

The race will officially begin at 8:30 a.m.
