Valley U-18 girls still perfect, senior men open season

The Valley United U-18 girls’ soccer team continued to roll along in Tier 1 play in the Nova Scotia Soccer League entering play this past weekend.

The U-18 girls improved to 6-0 on the season with a pair of wins June 8: 4-1 over Halifax Dunbrack and 1-0 over Dartmouth United. After six games, Valley had scored 18 goals and allowed three.

Carly Gillis, Lauren Landry and Maia Jorgenson had the Valley goals against Dunbrack. In the win over Dartmouth, Jorgenson had the goal and Jillian Cochrane the shutout.

In other recent NSSL action, the Valley U-14 girls also remained undefeated on the season with three wins and three ties following a scoreless draw with Sackville June 1. Vanessa Robertson earned the shutout, her third of the season.

The U-16 girls scored a decisive 7-2 victory June 8 over Dunbrack. Brittany Green and Peggy Kenny each scored the hat trick, and Amy Lockhart had the other Valley goal.The win was the first of the season for the U-16 girls to go along with two losses and two ties.

The U-16 boys and U-18 boys weren’t as fortunate. The U-16 boys dropped a 4-1 decision June 1 to Halifax County, with Alex Verge scoring the Valley goal and Tyler Ryan scoring twice for County. The loss dropped Valley’s record to a disappointing 1-4.

The U-18 boys saw their record drop to 1-2-1 with a 3-1 loss to Highland June 8. James Nunn had the only Valley goal, his third of the season.

Meanwhile, the Valley Kings Arms senior A men’s team opened its season June 1 with a 2-2 draw with Moncton. Tommy Dorrian and Koady Goodine had the Valley goals.

Kings Arms played twice on the June 7-8 weekend, losing 7-1 to PEI Saturday then rebounding for a 2-1 victory over Fredericton Sunday. Ross Hussey had the lone Valley goal against PEI, and Morgan Harrop scored both goals in the win over Fredericton.
