The Kentville senior Wildcats are experiencing tough times. After four straight wins to start the NSSBL season, the Wildcats have lost four straight entering a three-game series this weekend in Sydney.
The most recent loss came Wednesday at Memorial Park, a 7-1 defeat at the hands of the Halifax Pelham Canadians.
Winning pitcher Andrew MacIntosh and reliever Chris Munroe combined to hold the Wildcats to seven scattered hits, with MacIntosh going the first eight innings and Munroe contributing a scoreless ninth.
Meanwhile, the Canadians scored their seven runs on nine hits, many of the timely variety, off Kentville starter Tim Clayton and relievers Taylor Welch and John Rowe.
Halifax scored twice in the top of the first inning, the runs coming on a Jay Turple RBI single and a Shawn Peverill sacrifice fly.
The Wildcats responded with a run in the bottom of the first, on an RBI double by Mike Lockhart, but that would be the extent of the Kentville scoring.
The Canadians took a 3-1 lead in the second on Mark Pelham’s RBI single then added two more in the fifth on Chris Gallivan’s two-run single. Halifax completed the scoring with single runs in the eighth and ninth.
Clayton, who surrendered five runs on eight hits through five innings, took the loss.
Gallivan led Halifax with three singles and two RBIs. Pelham had two singles and two RBIs, and Ryan Veinot added two singles.
For the Wildcats, Les Berry reached base three times on two singles and a walk, and scored his team’s lone run. Lockhart’s double was Kentville’s only extra-base hit.
Following their three-game series in Sydney, the Wildcats return home for a scheduled 7:30 start Wednesday, with the Dartmouth Moosehead Dry providing the opposition.
