Grand View Manor Matters - May

May was a very busy month at Grand View Manor, and we have had lots of fun.

We had music, a ball game with hot dogs and a Mother’s Day program and tea.

We had an Apple Blossom parade with children and carriages, Dandy Apple, princesses, a town crier and Granny Apple. We paraded around the manor and the residents really enjoyed seeing everyone. We had princesses representing each unit. We had an Apple Blossom Ball, with music by the Bauchmans. At the ball, Seretha Forsyth was crowned GVM Queen for Apple Blossom. Gail MacNeil was 1st Lady in Waiting. A blossom tea was also enjoyed, with homemade apple pie. Van drives to see the blossoms headed outduring the week.

We are happy to have Anita Ayling back as a summer student, and we welcome Sarah Graves as well. Anita brings her music experience, which is great, and Sarah is learning all our programs.

We would like to thank Anita Bezanson for making and donating lap robes. Also, thanks to all who have donated stuffed toys. We have put them to good use. Anyone having small stuffed toys: we can always use more.

Our ticket auction was another big success, with over $3,000 raised for resident programs. Thanks to all staff, volunteers and businesses for donating time and items to the auction.

The Somerset “grandparent” program is again finished for another year. This is a great program, benefiting both youth and residents.

Activity has a new director of recreation. Marianne Moeliker comes from British Columbia with much experience to share.

Our annual Grand View Manor Seniors Foundation Golf Tournament, sponsored by Lawtons, was June 6 at the Berwick Heights Golf Course.

Our Physio Department is still collecting Foodland and Sobeys cash tapes. Anyone having any can leave them at the front desk.

If anyone would like to volunteer over the summer taking residents for walks or just visiting sitting in the garden, please call Lynn Hardy at the manor.

The Junior Volunteer Program is winding down for the summer. Thank you to the youth who have been faithful all year. The program will begin again in the fall for youth ages 14-18 years of age. Contact Lynn Hardy at the manor if you are interested.
