Silver, Carol Marie "Sis", 61, of Ellershouse, Hants County, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Wednesday, June 4, 2008, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Sis was born July 27, 1946 in Halifax, and was the daughter of Susie Helen "Maude" (Carter) and the late Mack Kendall. Surviving are her husband, Vern; son, Darrin (Tracey) Silver, Ellershouse; daughters, Darcy Silver (Perry), Three Mile Plains; Dana (Kyle) Feltham, Kentville; also proud mother of Tony Julian, Julie Martin, Cindy DeWolfe, and Ann DeWolfe; grandchildren, Samantha, Jaclyn, Clay, Hunter, Hayden, and Chantz; brothers, Jim (Lillian) Ford, Hammonds Plains; Dohn Kendall, Berwick; sisters, Doreen White (Charles Purdy), Sackville; Sharon (Arthur) Hodder, Halifax; Ruby (Paul) LaCroix, Fairview; sister-in-law, Helen Kendall, Drumheller, Alberta; special friends, Helen LaRusic and Lillian Kendall. Carol was also predeceased by her brother, Gerald. Cremation has taken place under the care of Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. There will be no visitation by request. A private family service will be held at a later date, with Rev. Alex Gardiner officiating. Interment will be in Oakhill Cemetery, Ellershouse. KAISER, Helen Mae - Yarmouth, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on June 3, 2008, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in New Glasgow, she was the only child of the late Chester and Florence (MacCallum) Buell. She is survived by Earle, her loving husband of 46 years; daughters, Judy (Dennis) Leamont, Plymouth; Beverley (Glen) Harpell, Halifax; Wendy (Rollie) Hannem, Port Maitland; son, Tim (Gail) Kaiser, Yarmouth; 10 grandchildren, Danya, Andrew, Tim, Amanda, Matthew, Nicole, Bhreagh, Laura, Angela, Gregory, and five great-grandchildren; one nephew, two nieces and lifelong friend, Eudora (Frank) Watt, Ontario. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Carl J. Bates (1957). Helen graduated from New Glasgow High School and subsequently attended Maritime Business College. An accomplished pianist, following studies in the Royal Conservatory of Music, she played accompaniment for a number of soloists and church services. Having made a personal commitment at a young age, her lifelong activities reflect her ultimate priority and desire to serve her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Following her graduation from The Salvation Army Training College, she was stationed to serve in the province of Ontario. As a former member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in New Glasgow, Helen received an honorary lifetime membership in the Women's Missionary Society (WMS), taught Sunday school, C.G.I.T., and Brownies. As a member of the Zion Baptist Church in Yarmouth, she continued to work with Children's Ministries and was a devoted prayer partner for the Sunday school. She was a member of the WMS Ladies Guild, hosted home Bible studies and greatly enjoyed her role in the church's visitation program. While serving as a Bible Study Co-ordinator, Helen also held several positions on the executive of the Christian Women's Club in Yarmouth. She devoted many years of service, including her role as Atlantic Area Representative, to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Gideons International of Canada. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Helen will be sadly missed by her family. She delighted in spending time with her grandchildren. She will always be remembered for enjoying family gatherings, for using the "good dishes", and for her special bond with the "other love of her life", a constant companion and friend, her German shepherd, Unna. Special thanks to Dr. Cain, the nursing staff of 4 South and caregivers, Grace Marginson, Rhonda Williams and Bev Jacquard. Visitation was held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, June 6, in Sweeny's Funeral Home, 567 Main St., Yarmouth. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 7, in Zion United Baptist Church, 27 Parade St., Yarmouth, Rev. Brian Wallace officiated. There was a private interment in the Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery for family members only. Reception followed in The Salvation Army Corps, 103 Brunswick St., Yarmouth. Margaret Vera MacDonald - 84, of Kentville, passed away very peacefully on Wednesday June 4, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville with her family by her side. Born on August 30, 1923, in Brookfield, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Geordie and Gertie Hamilton. Vera served overseas with the R.C.A.F. in WWII. She married William H. “Bill” MacDonald in 1945. Vera was an active member of the United Church of Canada, Clan Donald, United Commercial Travelers and the United Church Women. She was the benevolent ruler of her family, known as the “Queen Mum”. Vera had a very active lifestyle until the end. She was known for her love of family, pansies, and bridge. She is survived by her daughters, Gail (Garth) Gordon, Kentville; Beverley (Lyall) Jorden, Scotsburn; sons, Bradford “Brad” (Mary) MacDonald, Kentville; Larry (Anna) MacDonald, Lower Sackville; 15 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Doris (Roy) Longard, Bridgewater. Besides her parents, Vera was predeceased by her husband Bill MacDonald and her son, Christopher; brothers, LeRoy, Merle, Rex and Eric Hamilton. Visitation for Mrs. MacDonald was held from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Friday June 6 in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 5 Leverett Ave., Kentville (902-678-2151). FIELDEN, Sarah Kathleen, 87, of Windsor, formerly of Pembroke, Hants County, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at the Windsor Elms, Windsor. Born November 11, 1920, in Minasville, Hants County, she was the daughter of the late George Fenwick and Abbie Florence (Woodworth) Hamilton. Sarah is survived by her daughter, Ann Nunn, Dartmouth; grandson, David (Elizabeth Grant) Nunn, Fall River; great-grandson, Jensen Grant-Nunn; great-granddaughter, Lindsay Grant-Nunn; sisters, Margaret (Robie) Hennigar, Bridgewater; Phyllis Dixon, St. Peters, Cape Breton; Shirley (Phillip) Woolaver, Bear River; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Sarah was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Edger Fielden (1999); grandson, Robert E. Nunn; son-in-law, Delbert C. Nunn; brothers, Edward Hamilton and Leslie Hamilton; sisters, Abbie MacNicoll, Esther Mosher, Marion Mullen, Isabel Sabean, Alberta Eldridge, Grace Knowlton, and Clara Frame. Cremation has taken place under the care of Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. There was no visitation by request. Goudey, Edward Stanley, 86 - Brazil Lake, passed away peacefully in Yarmouth Regional Hospital on June 4, 2008. Born November 14, 1921 in New Tusket, Digby Co., he was a son of the late Frank and Alice (Boudreau) Goudey. Part of Edward’s life was spent driving trucks for Tupper Warren in Digby as well as in Goose Bay, Labrador. For a number of years he lived in Brazil Lake with his wife and family, where he drove school buses. His greatest joy was having his family around him and visiting with his grandchildren and great-grandsons. Edward accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and Lord in 1979 and lived the rest of his life serving Him. He was stricken by two major strokes within the past six years, which limited his life’s activities considerably. Surviving are wife Lillian; daughter June Porter, Yarmouth; sons Roy (Beverley), Gary (Esther), and Earl (Elizabeth), all of Brazil Lake; step-daughter Joyce (Robert), Hebron; sister Laura Castonguay; sister-in-law Ruth Goudey, several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by sisters Mildred (Edgar) Gunderson, Evelyn (Joe) Wallace, Grace (Clarence) Mullen, infant sister, Hilda; brothers Bernard (Helen), Donald and twins Jameson and Jesse. Remains were resting at Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth, where visiting hours were held Thursday June 5 from 7-9 pm. Funeral service took place Friday June 6 at 2 pm in Sweeny’s Funeral Home chapel, Pastor Reg Thomas officiated, assisted by Pastor Karl Gorman. Interment was in Brazil Lake Cemetery. SOLEY, Logan Curtis “Curt”, 71, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at Roseway Hospital, Sandy Point after a courageous battle with lung disease. Born in Truro on January 1, 1937, he was a son of the late Norman Logan and Muriel Hazel (Fletcher) Soley. He grew up in Economy, where his lifelong passion as a sportsman began. An avid fly fisherman and small game hunter, he also had a love of sports, especially golf and football. Curt attended Dalhousie University, and was a graduate of the Nova Scotia Teachers College. He was a lifelong educator, both as a teacher and principal at the Barrington Municipal High School from 1959 to 1993. He never forgot his students and always enjoyed reminiscing with them. He had a great sense of humour and a brilliant mind, and was always kind. He loved spending time with his family. He was a member of Philadelphia Lodge #47 and a Master Mason, a lifetime member of the Phi Delta Fraternity, and former Kinsmen. Survived by sister Ellen (Gerald Cruthers); children, Pam (Joseph Morrison), Matthew, Tim (Margaret); stepdaughters, Marilyn Johnson, Kathy Johnson, Selena (Terry Nickerson); grandchildren, Lynda, John (Rebecca), Logan, Paige, Caroline, Olivia; step-grandchildren, P.J., Kris, Jessica. Predeceased by his wife, Annie Marie (MacKay), stepson, Ian, granddaughter, Bethany. He will be sadly missed by his good friend and companion, Muriel (Sis) Young. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held on Sunday, June 8, 2008 from H. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel. Barrington. Pastor Cindy Dunnett officiating. Burial will take place on June 14, 2008 in the Economy Cemetery. Ewing, Gerald Neil, 75, of Lakelands, Hants County, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2008 in the Windsor Elms Village. Gerald was born July 21, 1932, in Hampton, New Brunswick. He was the son of the late William Colin and Mabel Regis (MacDermott) Ewing. A veteran of the Korean war, and recipient of the Major General Worthington Sword, Gerry pursued a career in the public service of Canada including several positions; Scientific officer at BIO; Dominion Hydrographer of Canada; and Assistant Deputy Minister, Fisheries and Oceans Canada. An avid sportsman, Gerry was involved in hockey, curling, and lawn bowling. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and Bedford Lions Club. Gerry is survived by his three children, Art, Nanoose Bay, BC; Don, Bentonville, Arkansas; and Beth, Ottawa, ON; he is also survived by two stepchildren, Debra Deviller, Lower Sackville and David Ryder, Ottawa, ON. Gerry is also survived by three grandchildren and one step grandchild; brothers, Ron, Windsor, ON; Ken, Kemptville, ON; David, Abbotsford BC, sisters, Margaret, Hampton, NB and Mary, Mt. Hebron, NB. He was predeceased by his first wife Margaret "Peggy" Duggan; and his second wife, Karen "Marie" Riawetz; brothers, Len, Art, John, George, and Fred; sister, Florence. Cremation has taken place under the care of Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. A gathering was held in his memory at the Royal Canadian Legion No. 165, Mount Uniacke, from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2008. Burial will be held in Ottawa, Ontario, at a later date. MCGILL, Vivian Pearl - 91, of Middleton passed away Thursday, June 5, 2008 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Torbrook, Annapolis County on December 12, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Maynard and Agnes (Riley) Videto. She was a faithful member of the Middleton Baptist Church and the Women’s Club of that Church for many years. She and her late husband jointly operated the family farm which included a greenhouse business. Vivian eagerly looked forward to Spring, when they could plant the seeds and work in the gardens. She particularly enjoyed her roses which were always in full bloom in mid-July when they celebrated their anniversary. Vivian often felt that she was never closer to God than when she was in her gardens. Her interests included sewing (which she taught at night school for several years), music, playing her electric organ, gardening, knitting and other handicrafts. Over the years she knit hundreds of pairs of mittens for “Friendly Neighbours”, an organization which assists needy families. She was a devoted wife, mother and a loyal friend to many. She was happiest when surrounded by her family, either at the farm or the family cottage at Zwicker Lake. She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Ed) Merry, Halifax; sons, Jim (Colleen), Brooklyn, Annapolis County; Fred (Barb), Wilmot; grandchildren; Beth (Ian) McLaws, Middle Sackville; Alan (Debbie) Lees, New Glasgow; five great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband George; daughter, Katherine; sisters, Carrie, Verna and Evelyn; brothers, Fred, Elwood, Howard, Everett and Irvin. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Visitation was held Sunday, June 8, 2008 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448, where the funeral service was held Monday, June 9, 2008, Rev. George Mollins and Rev. Danny Smith officiated. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton.
