Ruth Elizabeth Patterson (Watson) Mastin – Passed away peacefully on June 2, 2008 with her family by her side in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Ruth was born on March 10, 1921 in East Halls Harbour. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Janet (Forrest) Watson, Glasgow, Scotland. She is predeceased by her husband, Clarence; brothers and sisters, Charles Watson, Forrest Watson, Nancy Watson, Dorothy Watson, James Watson and Violet Neville. She was a graduate of the Halifax Business Academy and worked at the Imperial Bank of Commerce for several years. She was married to Clarence Buchanan Mastin on June 29, 1945. They resided in Regina, Saskatchewan before returning to Nova Scotia. She worked in the Victoria General Hospital business office up until her retirement in 1985. She joined St. Matthew's United Church in 1945 and was a member of The United Church Women's Group and Jubilee Group for many years. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother and received great joy from spending time with her family and friends. She was a mentor and loyal friend who was always there to help others. She dedicated time to many charitable organizations and had a great passion and respect for nature and the land. She caringly touched the lives of all who knew her. She was a dedicated and loving mother who was greatly loved and highly respected by her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her four children, Janet Mastin, Halifax; Robert Mastin, Ottawa; Donna LeBlanc, Halifax; Daphne Tallon, Halifax; grandchildren, Heather (Steven) Glascock, Halifax; Stephanie LeBlanc, Calgary; Jonathan Mastin Calgary; Andrew Tallon, Ottawa; great grandchildren, Emma and Owen Glascock, Halifax; a loving niece, Margaret Gilles, Halifax. There was no visitation by family request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Robert Billings officiated. DOUCETTE Stella Mary – 91, Store Street, Yarmouth, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2008 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born May 20, 1917 in Trepassey, Nfld., she was a daughter of the late Frank and Esther (Taylor) Sutton. Stella worked in the winding room at Dominion Textiles, until her retirement. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary, Branch No. 61, Yarmouth, and she also enjoyed playing cards, bingo and knitting. Surviving are daughters, Judy Doucette (Louis Johnson), Greenville and Marion (Paul) Dulong, Yarmouth; grandchildren, Nancy, Randy, Shelley, Stephen, Jason and Vanessa; great grandchildren, Jeremy, Shane, Luke, Savannah, Mya, Markie and Holly; a great-great grandson, Landon. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Otis Doucette; daughters, Sharon Rodgerson and Holly Doucette; a sister, Aggie; brothers, Leo, Gerald and Mike. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by request. A Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary service was held at 1:45 PM, Tuesday, June 3, followed by the memorial service at 2:00 PM, both in H. M. BOUDREAU, Florence Rosalie – 75, Forest Street, Yarmouth, and formerly of Brooklyn, Yarmouth Co., passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2008 in Valley Reghional Hospital, Kentville. Born February 19, 1933 in Yarmouth, she was a daughter of the late Henry Harrington and Margaret Clairmont. She was a retire waitress, having worked at Harris’ Seafood in Yarmouth, as well as having worked as a cook in the Tusket Islands. She enjoyed her family, gardening, cooking, going to the beach and playing cards. ZWICKER, Hugh Fraser, 69, Shelburne, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2008 in Roseway Hospital, Sandy Point, Shelburne Co. Born in Bridgewater, he was a son the late Charles and Ina (Williams) Zwicker. Hugh was a lumberman and worked for Shelburne Woodworkers for many years as well as Billnor Forest Products. He is survived by sons, Donald, Amherst; Hugh (David Coverly), Ottawa; Charles, Yarmouth; sister, Robena (Earle) Butler, Shelburne; half-brother, Max, Halifax; half sister, Myrtle MacHardy, Hopewell, Pictou Co., three grandchildren, Andrew, Jennifer, Woods Harbour; Haley, Halifax; devoted friend, Rochelle Hammond. He was predeceased by his wife, Elsie (1993); an infant son; brother, Donald in infancy and sister, Ina in infancy; half brothers, Guy, George, Raymond, Murray, Clarence, Everett, Lawrence and Stanley; half sisters, Marion Lewis, Marjorie Fancy, Lillian Doyle, Alice Stuart and Gertrude Williams. MACDONALD, Gladys May, 81, East Green Harbour, formerly of St. Catherine’s River, Queens Co., passed away in Roseway Hospital, Monday, June 2, 2008. Born October 6, 1926, at Round Bay, she was a daughter of the late Clayton and Ida (Decker) Hagar. Gladys was a member of the United Church of Canada and was an elder in St. Andrews United Church for many years. She was a lifetime member of the United Church Women and held a variety of executive positions in the UCW. She received her teaching diploma from the Nova Scotia Teachers College in Truro and taught at Louis Head School and St. Catherine’s River School where she met the love of her life, Maynard, and was married to him for 59 years. She was also employed by Canada Post for a number of years at St. Catherine’s River and through this job was able to meet any new people moving into the area which she dearly loved because she enjoyed people. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her for her kind smile and warm hugs. She is survived by her husband, Maynard; children, Walter MacDonald (Noreen), Mersey Point; Mary Collishaw (Chris), Lockeport; Ellen Suttle (David), East Green Harbour; Alfreda Malone (Jerry), Bible Hill; brothers, Amos Hagar (Irene), East Side Ragged island; Ross Hagar (Betty), Dartmouth; 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren plus many others who considered her Grammie and Great Grammie as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Nora Read – 96, formerly of Canning, Kings County, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2008 in the Windsor Elms Village, Windsor, Hants County. Nora was born into the Walters Family of Channel, Newfoundland. As a young woman, she moved to Halifax and later moved to Verdun, Quebec, where she started her family. She retired to Ontario. Nora was hard working and family oriented. She is survived by a son, G. Bruce (Diane), Kamloops, British Columbia; a step-son, Ted, Green Valley, Ontario; seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Cecil Harold Read; four brothers and three sisters. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there was no visitation by family request. Grafton Delancey Outhouse, 83, of Tiverton, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2008, with his family. He was the son of the late George and Myrtle (Walker) Outhouse. Grafton was a seaman who loved his work and the sea. He worked on several vessels along the Eastern seaboard and Newfoundland in his early career for the Frank E. Davis Co., and was in the Merchant Navy. He later became the captain of the Department of Fisheries patrol vessel ‘Tagati’. He followed this with a boat building business and later took up fishing. The last boat he built was the ‘Fundy Wave’, which he took for himself. His seafaring career concluded as captain of the ferry ‘Joshua Slocum’ between Tiverton and East Ferry. He was a member of IOOF Lodge 113, Royal Canadian Legion branch ‘Capriquet’ in Freeport, and Tiverton Super Seniors. Grafton is survived by his wife, Bernice (Porter, Pugh); a brother, John, Tiverton; a son, Peter (Jean), Dartmouth; grandsons, Matthew, Kevin; stepdaughters, Dorothy (Roger) Outhouse; Carol (Mark) Titus; step-grandchildren, Michelle, Colin, Steven, Richard, Sarah, Katie, Michael, Brianna; great-grandchildren, Kali, Hannah, Carleigh; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Annabel (Elliott) Outhouse; and two sisters, Etta Crocker and Gertrude Thurber. Visitation was June 4 in Tiverton United Baptist Church where the funeral Service was held Thursday, June 5, 2008, with Rev. Renee Clark officiating. Born in New Germany, and raised in the loving care of her stepmother, Roxanna Moore and family, West Paradise, NS. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, John Wallace Carslaw. She was a proud veteran of World War 11, a hair dresser and a fashion store clerk, but most of all, she was a loving wife and mother. Clairmont, Edward Charles, 78, Yarmouth, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of his Savior on Tuesday. June 3, 2008 at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born May 2, 1930 in Little River Harbour, Yarmouth Co. Son of Leo and Janie (Campbell). Former employee of Proctor & Gamble Co., in Pointe Claire, Quebec, where he worked as a stationary engineer for 26 years, retiring in 1986 to South Ohio, Yarmouth Co. He was a man of faith. He loved the Lord and was a godly example for his family. He enjoyed woodworking and spent many hours turning bowls and other projects on his lathe. He spent many happy times with his children and grandchildren. Survived by his wife of 55 years, Victorine (Cosman), three sons, Gary (Donna), Comox, B.C.; Dave (Laura), Surrey, B.C.; Greg (Colleen), Grande Prairie, Alta.; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, sisters, Lillian, Plymouth, Mass.; Jessie, Digby N.S.; Rose and Vivian, Quebec; Ann, Wedgeport, NS.
