Kennedy, William "Bill" Elias, age 91, of Mount Uniacke, formerly of Halifax, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2008, at the Windsor Elms, Windsor. Born February 21, 1917, Halifax, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late John William and Grace Myrtle (Johnson) Kennedy. After the death of his father, at the age of three, Bill was sent to live with his grandparents in Indian Harbour, Halifax County. As a survivor of the Halifax Explosion, Bill was honoured this past December at the Gala Anniversary. Bill worked at the Canadian Marconi Company for over 30 years, as a marine radio and radar salesman and technician. During World War II, he serviced the radio equipment on all ships heading in convoys overseas. Much of Bill's extra time was spent between being involved with the Church of the Holy Spirit, Lakelands, and the Uniacke Masonic Lodge No. 165, A.F. & A.M. His other interests were: bicycle trips from Halifax to Peggy's Cove with Ruth when they were dating; cross-country skiing; testing the ice for skating; pretending to fish; picking blueberries; motor boat tours on the lake and in the later years sailing in St. Margaret's Bay. Bill and Ruth had some wonderful trips together with many good friends, Bermuda and Prince Edward Island being their favorite spots. Bill's greatest joy was watching his grandchildren grow up by the lake and being part of all their important events. Bill was looking forward to the birth of his first great grandchild this coming October. Bill had a good sense of humor and whenever he could get away with it, played a good "prank" on some unsuspecting family members or friends. He was well known as Mr. Fix-it, yet on many occasions, his "fix-its" needed some "fix-ups"! Over the years, Bill took great pleasure in entertaining many family and friends at his home on the lake. As a great ambassador for Peggy's Cove, Bill made sure visitors could not leave without sitting in the "Devil's Armchair". Married August 3, 1942, Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, the former Ruth Geneva Joudrey; his daughter, Elizabeth (Alvin) Phillips, Mount Uniacke and their children, Mark (Karen) Phillips, Halifax and Darren (Lindsay) Phillips, Halifax; his daughter, Cherie (Terry MacLean) Kennedy, Hubbards and their children, Geoff (Tanya) MacLean, Simms Settlement; Adele MacLean (fiancée` Lee Moore), Dartmouth; Naiomi MacLean, Halifax; sister, Peggy (George) Starratt, Windsor; sister-in-law, Muriel Druhan, Mount Uniacke; nephew, Michael (Annie) Druhan and a great nephew, Spencer Druhan, both of Mississauga, Ontario. He was predeceased by his parents, John William and Grace Myrtle (Johnson) Kennedy; brothers-in-law, Scott Morrison and Gerald Druhan. Cremation has taken place. Uniacke Lodge No. 165 A.F. & A.M., held a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 2, in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor, which was followed by visitation from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service was 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2008, in the Church of the Holy Spirit, Lakelands. The Rev. Brian Hutchins officiated. Interment was in the Church of the Holy Spirit Parish Cemetery, Lakelands. Family flowers only, donations in memory of Bill may be made to the Church of the Holy Spirit or a charity of one's choice. During his struggle with Alzheimer's, Bill often wanted to go "Home". We all hope that he has now finally found his "Home". Sign the book of condolence, click on "Obituaries" at, www.lindsaysfuneralhome.com.
