People warned to stay clear of fox den at Beach Meadows Beach
The Department of Natural Resources has advised that there is a fox den near boardwalk three at Beach Meadows. Signs have been posted advising the public to stay well clear, at least 75 to 100 feet, of the mother and her three kits as the danger of getting too close to a wild animal, especially a mother and her babies, can not be understated. Accordingly, the public is asked to only ever access the beach via the boardwalks, especially for the next 4 - 6 weeks, after which the foxes should move along.
The public is also reminded that Beach Meadows is a protected beach and dogs must be on a leash each time they are there. Owners are advised that, with this fox population present, some domestic pets are in danger should they get too close to the den, so now would be a good time to get in the habit of keeping your dogs leashed. The Department of Natural Resources has also advised there will be increased enforcement measures in terms of patrols by their personnel in an effort to ensure leash laws are observed and that wildlife is respected and not harassed, even unintentionally.
