Weymouth Consolidated School hosted its sixth annual IWK barbecue fundraiser on June 6 and was able to send $2,000 in support of the Maritimes’ hospital for children.
Children enjoyed not only a barbecued hotdog lunch but face painting, sucker pull, tattoos, beanbag toss, mock jail, and games of soccer, baseball and skipping.

Parents, community members and students from St. Mary’s Bay Academy supported the successful event.

“This fundraiser was well organized and we received overwhelming support from the staff, students and the community,” said principal Larry Kelly. “The success of the barbecue was due largely to the many volunteers and that is appreciated.”

One parent wanted to come and lend support to the event because her son had recently been treated at the IWK.

Elissa Cook's son Johnathan was treated in the hospital this past year for cancer and felt the fundraiser was an important event in the community.

“I brought all five of my children today to support this event,”said Cook. "We are thankful for the help Johnathan received at the IWK.”
