Child Care Awareness parade and walk-a-thon fundraiser planned for June 7
The Early Childhood Awareness Network (ECAN) is hosting a parade and walk-a–thon fundraiser for Early Learning and Child Care programs on Saturday, June 7. The parade will start at 10:30 a.m. at the old Motor Mart parking lot on Starr’s Road in Yarmouth and end at NSCC Burridge Campus on Pleasant Street.
After the walk there will be activities for children including music and singing, chalk drawing, parachute games and more at the campus.

MLA Richard Hurlburt will be cutting a cake at 11:30 a.m. Parents, caregivers, children, staff or anyone with a vested interested in providing and promoting quality childcare programs are welcome to participate.

ECAN is composed of professionals in the region that want to show the importance of Early Childhood and how each moment in the first years counts towards providing a substantial ground-stone for future development.

As a child grows during their first five years, crucial components are developed, which become the foundation for each child’s individual development.

During the summer months, events are planned throughout Nova Scotia in celebration of Child Care Awareness Days. The events are meant to promote the value of quality childcare and appreciate those who provide it to society.

Research shows that every dollar invested in high quality childcare generated a two-dollar return in social and economic benefits to children, parents and society.

There is also a cost saving of seven times the original investment in quality for at risk children, in terms of social responsibility, crime reduction, success at school and success in employment.
